Cone of shame to get her to stop itching. She probably has allergies (t’is the season).

Change her food to a limited ingredient diet. She is probably allergic to something in her food and a lot of vets are bad about recommending horrible food.

I highly recommend Orijen, Acana, and Natural Balance L.I.D.

Can you give her one of those Aveno oatmeal baths?  Maybe some kind of anti itch cream.

I second the cone of shame. Poor baby but you don’t want it to get infected on top of what is going on.

Have you tried those hotspot sprays from a petstore?

My dog has a spot on her right front paw that she will lick and worry to the point of bleeding at least once a year. Numerous vet visits never yielded anything definitive as the cause, nor have changes in diets and habits made the itchiness disappear for good. Now, everytime I notice her messing with that spot again, I just get proactive with a combination of the cone of shame, spray, and legging/glove set up. Good luck!

My sister’s dog had a chin irritation and somehow it was further irritated by her food bowl?  I know, sounds strange, but I think she changed the bowl (or cleaned it really well??) and it helped.  Bizarre!  But I also wonder if your pup has a food allergy.  Poor girl, it’s so hard when they are uncomfortable!  Hope it clears up soon!

@beachbride1216:  my parents had HORRIBLE issues with one of their dogs.. changed the food and everything.. Finally got her allergy tested… turns out she is allergic to everything that grows outside and… wait for it… human dander. Absolutely no food allergies!!! how crazy is that! Now the poor thing (well she’s better now) is on allergy shots 🙂

I would just follow the vets recommendations about the food allergies and stuff and if it doesn’t go away maybe look into getting your pup tested in case she’s allergic to something like my parent’s dog. Oh and look into the medications you’re using for flea/tick/heartworm sometimes they can be allergic to that!

@hippomama:  Did they test for demodex?  I had to take my pup to the vet 3 times before they figured out it was demodex, which is fairly Common in puppies.
