I highly recommend this stuff, we picked it up at our local independent pet store and I adore it. We’ve already given our dog two baths (she’s been home less than a week) because we’re by the doggy beach and she has loooooong hair. We had to use PetCo type shampoo last time because we were at the Future In-Laws, and it left her coat feeling gross in comparison. And didn’t smell nearly as good:

our vet recommended using regular johnson and johnson baby shampoo.  my dog’s fur felt super soft and smelled like a lovely baby.  and no tears!

I can’t remember the name of ours that we use (over the last year, we’ve had to use so many different kinds in order to find one that didn’t irritate her skin!), but I’d definitely recommend using an organic shampoo. I know that we found ours at our local grocery store pet aisle. I know not all dogs are like this, but our dog has so many skin problems that she can only use something that’s completely chemical free!

I bought it at Wigglyville in Lakeview East on Broadway – it’s called Spot Organic Coat Shampoo. They have a whole bunch of other great choices as well, I think their stock sometimes varies – I absolutely love that store if you’ve never been. They’re all really nice and do a lot of research before deciding what to stock – when I ask for a recommendation, they’re really enthusiastic and friendly about why a certain product is the best.

I LOVE my Rapid Bath!  I saw it on a commercial, and was a little skeptical, but after seeing the reviews on PetCo.com I decided to buy one.  It’s awesome!  When I use it outside/downstairs, it works as well as they say in the commercials.  When I use it upstairs where we have less water pressure, it doesn’t work AS well, (not the product’s fault), but it still better than buckets of water!  They have all different kinds of shampoo cartridges for it, and they last a pretty long time.  I’ve used it probably half a dozen times and I am still using the original cartridge that came with the product.

@Lilyfaith – that sounds like a really neat store!  I wish they had some in the Minneapolis area!  Tell them to expand, please! Wink

I’m not sure what the name of ours is but it includes oatmeal. We were using a really good smelling (um pina coloda – lol) dog/puppy shampoo but it was irritating my dogs skin.  We talked to our vet and she recomended using a shampoo with oatmeal in it because it will soothe the skin. They have plenty of oatmeal shampoos are places like PetCo and Petsmart, they’re pretty decently priced and smell good too!

I don’t have any specific recommendations, but I’ve always heard that shampoos with oatmeal in them are the best.

Also, just a random side note that I recently learned: If you have a dog with hair that doesn’t grow (like a lab), you aren’t supposed to bathe them more than once at month at most. It’s bad for their skin. I didn’t know this, and had been bathing my little lab/shepherd puppy every week! Just thought I’d share, since I originally had no idea 🙂

(Of course, after going to the beach, a bath is probably a good idea, haha)

We use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo in Lavender scent. Works great and rinses off well.
