Has anyone ever purchased a used/sample/pre-owned dress then sold it? I am in loe with the Lazaro 3161 but with prices of $3k and up I just can’t put all my budget on my dress. BUT if I found someone willing to sell it for $2500 then in turn sold it for $2k would it be worth it? Or possibly being out $1,000k to wear it for one night? But in all honesty even if I purchased my lower budget dress from Maggie Sottero for $1400, and it sat in my closet until 25 years from now, what different does it make?

I would buy the dress you can afford without selling it. You will probably be able to sell it after the wedding, but I wouldn’t bank on it.
ETA: You have a year until your wedding. So before you commit, I would wait a little bit to see if better listings come up. The popular dresses have new listings pop up pretty frequently.

I purchased my dress with the intention of selling it after the wedding but NOT needing the money. I lucked out and the dress I fell in love with ended up being discontinued, so I paid WAAAAY less for it.
I have NO daughters and as my child-bearing days are behind me I will not ever have a daughter. I can see no reason to keep my dress. Honestly, if I could have found a place to rent my dress I would have done that.
I say this to say buy what you love & can afford, sell if you can BUT only if you are certain that you will not regret that decision.

yeah I see no reason to keep the dress….. The only thing I was thinking about was if I could find a corset/bodice with a separate skirt then I could wear the top again, but have had no luck with that route either.

You never know if you can sell your dress, so I would not buy it unless you can afford it without selling it.

I’d adjust any estimate on what you’d get by re-selling down quite a bit; you lose a good chunk of value with any item (but especially a wedding dress) the more times it’s been sold. So if your resale as the first owner would be $2500, your resale as the second owner is probably going to be more like $1000-1500.

what if something happens during the wedding and ruins the dress? Someone steps on it and rips it, someone spills food or drink on it, etc. I wouldn’t buy it with the guarantee you will recoup money on it.
