@little_d:  I just saw the Marketplace episode about doing this.  Many dealerships discourage people from doing it, going as far as saying it’s illegal even though it isn’t.  Some will not honour the warranty.  Maybe call ahead first?

I’m a Canadian who has bought in the US but I live here, so I’ve not dealt with any of the importing issues. I have friends who have done this, though. Things to think about – there’s no financing available for Canadians buying in the US, some dealerships will hassle you (some refuse to sell to Canadians even though there is no law against it), and you may not have a valid warranty once you cross back into Canada. Some people have a very easy time getting back through Customs while others have been hassled (like any other occasion, it depends on how the border guards are feeling that day and how they’re interpreting the rules…).
