Hi all,
We’re getting married July 18th, 2015 (it’s coming up fast!) and we’re trying to work through some of the reception color and decor ideas.
Our main wedding color is purple; the bridesmaids’ dresses are Mori Lee’s Grape (while this isn’t the exact dress, it’s the correct color: http://www.morilee.com/sites/default/files/dress/694/bg_img01.jpg). The purple will be accented with silver.
We have access to white tablecloths and napkins through our caterer. In addition, my fiancee’s mother is a teacher and organizer of her school’s grad. We conveniently have access through her to white chair covers, silver table runners, and silver chair sashes.
The local companies renting linens unfortunately have a limited selection. Purple is not in their offering.
One of my initial thoughts was:
- White chair covers (from FMIL)
- Silver chair bows (from FMIL), perhaps accented with a purple brooch. However, it’s looking like it might be cheaper to purchase purple chair sashes than to purchase purple brooches/pinned flowers to accent the silver chair bows.
- White tablecloths (from caterer)
- Purple table runners (purchase, linentablecloth.com eggplant or purple?, around $20)
- Purple napkins (purchase, linentablecloth.com eggplant or purple?, around $65)
Other thoughts we had:
- Purple table cloths with white napkins, requiring us to purchase the tablecloths rather than the napkins. I’m reluctant to do this as 10 table cloths costs more than 7 dozen polyester napkins.
- Silver tablecloths with purple napkins, requiring us to purchase both, which we’re very reluctant to do because of the added cost
- Purple chair sashes/bows, which will add around $100.
- Purple tablecloths with silver table runners. Again, the table cloths would run us around $150, so a bit reluctant.
Thoughts? What would you do?
Here is a picture of our venue. We’re renting round tables through our caterer, and the chairs definitely demand covering.

Thanks all!
Chris

What kind of chairs are you getting from the caterer? Are they the ones in the photo you posted above? If you’re on a budget maybe you can do the white tablecloth from your caterer and use the silver table runner from your Future Mother-In-Law and just purchase purple napkins. Use the white chair covers from you Future Mother-In-Law along with the silver bows?
What kind of centerpieces are you using? It might be a lot of white because of the tablecloth and chair covers. I found this picture online of something similar to what I suggested without you spending extra except on the napkins only.

crr243: I would use the white tablelcoths and napkins provided by your caterer. Why spend money on something that makes little or no difference to your guests when you can incorporate purple in so many other ways?
Rather than brooches or flowers, a summer wedding is perfect for a sprig of lavender. You can buy lavender at your local farmer’s market at a very reasonable price.

I would also use the silver chair sashes and runners you can get through your Mom.

With white cloths and silver table runners, the attention will be on the centerpieces where it belongs.

amy.d-y: The chairs are available at the venue and will be as shown in the picture. However, the venue only has rectangular tables available, so we’re renting round tables through our caterer.
We haven’t figured out centerpieces yet. We certainly want something low profile; we’ve been to wedding and events where the height of centerpiece has made it difficult to converse with the people on the opposite side of the table.
I think these ideas so far, but I’m a bit worried about how much white/silver there would be.

We’re now floating around the idea of skipping chair cover entirely, or going with a chair back only cover.
Here’s an example I found of a chair back cover: http://www.cantonchairrental.com/planner/productimages/20033131635237271.jpg
Either approach will certainly be more economical, saving both cash and time, but I’m torn. I’m not a fan of the chairs, shown in the pictures in my initial post, available at the venue.
