After researching hundreds of venues in the Philly/NJ area, coming up with many different budgets, picking up a second job, debating an elopement, a backyard wedding, a courthouse ceremony, and a destination wedding, we have finally decided to push the wedding back.
We were planning for July 28, 2012. Since we’re both full-time graduate students, 8 hours away from home, and 3.5 hours away from each other, we decided that there was no way that we would be able to pull together a wedding in the next four months. I’m gearing up to graduate. Between that, my thesis, trying to find a full-time position, and moving, it was just impossible. Not to mention that we were BROKE and trying to plan a wedding on a budget that didn’t exist.
I was upset, of course. I go on FB and see friends get engaged and immediately make wedding plans. I’ve been engaged for 2 years and I don’t want to wait anymore, but at the same time, it’s what’s best for us at the moment. I’m also concerned that waiting a year will push our baby making time back more than I wanted, but my best friend (and MOH) said to stop overthinking all of that. She’s right 🙂
So now, I’ll have time to find a job and a place to live (fingers crossed), save up some money (toes crossed!), research more venues, and get started on some DIY projects. Not to mention with me not being in school full-time, I can actually get some help from friends and family!
So now, I am officially a 2013 bride. 🙂

@shalynnmarie: Thanks for responding! I think it will be good to get excited about the wedding again. I have been feeling kind of “blah” about it lately.
Good luck to you in your planning, too!

@RayRayFurious: We will have been engaged for 2 years and almost 4 four months by the time we get married. We actually only decided to get married this August last month (we were planning on a January 2013 wedding) because we didn’t want to wait anymore! So even though we’ve been engaged for two years next month we only had six months to plan. Let me tell you that when you start putting deposits on things it feels like you just got engaged all over again and it’s finally all real (at least it did for me!).
I bet this next year will fly by with you being so busy with everything! 🙂 I recommend going ahead and booking your big vendors within the next several months so you can start focusing on the details. Good luck with everything! 🙂

@FutureMrsHoneybee: Thanks a bunch! I’m waiting to find a job before we actually put down any deposits, but that’s great advice.
Anyone else ever have to re-schedule their wedding? How did it feel?

We really considered this. For the area I live in, it is really uncommon to have an engagement longer than 3 months (mostly because of the predominantly LDS community which I don’t fit into). Ours is going to be 14 months when we get married because I wanted to wait until I graduated from college. We have been engaged now for 6 months (WHAT!) and it feels like it was just yesterday. I think that as long as you can keep planning and dreaming about it, no matter how long you have to wait, it will go by faster!

@RayRayFurious: Hi There,
You were so helpful when I was doing all my crazy searches but I see you push back your date. I am sure its for the best. I have a few stuff from my wedding and a few good vendors if you want any recommendations. Also the place I got married at was great and I know they will do a good job your wedding. I cannot wait to see your pictures! I know you are excited about graduating from school and a good job will come soon!!!
