I got engaged in March and with Easter and work keeping me busy I’ve just started wedding planning. We were about to book the hall for May 17, 2014 but by time I called the date was taken. Then we looked at June dates, all booked. I finally settled on September (I didn’t want to wait that long to get married). However the day I was going to book September 20, 2014 I found out my company is downsizing and I will be losing my job in a few months.
My question is should we still book the hall and put everything else on hold until I find a job or not even book the hall. I really don’t want to have to wait until 2015 Spring or Fall to be married. I feel confident that I’ll have a new job before I get let go of my current job. My FH is concered and doesn’t want to put any money down yet. I know if we don’t ask fast we will lose the September 2014 date.
What would you do in my situation? I need advice. Thanks in advance.

With the knowledge that you will be losing your job in a few months, I would not book the hall because based on what your financial situation becomes in a few months your wedding planning ideas may change.
Life is very uncertain, and financial issues can cause stress and a huge strain in your life and in your wedding planning.
The only reason that I would say, book the hall, would be if you have tons of money in savings and can afford to book the hall/pay for your wedding AND still be able to maintain all of your expenses in the event that you are unable to find another job as soon as you think you might.

If you’re flush with cash, do it. Or consider downsizing if you don’t want to wait. Life is too uncertain and you don’t want to ruin yourselves financially for one day if you can help it.

@hopefull2014: What’s your financial situation? Will getting a new job be an absolute necessity to pay your wedding? It’s really up to your financial situation. If you’re in a tight situation, I’d put on hold. Otherwise, I’d rather choose downsizing rather than waiting but it also requires some level of financial stability.
