I’m glad you are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  Medical issues can drain the bank account so fast!

Maybe you can use a public park/community center for the wedding so that venue won’t break the bank?

I would check into maybe some local Bed and Breakfasts? They often have nice gardens if you wanted outside, but they also offer indoor back up. They usually can provide you the food as well. Also, they already have fairly nice decor (they want to keep customers attracted) instead of the bare white walls of a community center so it’s a bit more affordable, decorating wise. The only thing is, if you plan on having a large wedding, they most likely can’t accomodate a ton of people.

I don’t have any recs, unfortunately, but I do applaud you for not wanting to dabble with credit cards/loans.  I am sure you will find something amazing =)

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. Medical stuff is so hard, because you have so little control. It sounds like you are getting healthy, so hopefully you won’t need to deal with this in the future.

I have heard the Brazilian Room in Berkeley is really nice and affordable (the deposit is only $300 bucks). There are tons of recommendations for affordable bay area places on the IndieBride boards, but their search function is down so I can’t find the specific threads. I’ll try again later and post the thread here.

Have you checked out any of the local wineries like in Morgan Hill?

Ah darn, I’ll look around and see what I can find!  Do you mind sharing an approximate head count for your wedding?

Have you looked at the Wedgewood venues?  They are very affordable venues.  The Wedgewood banquet centers in the bay area are located in Pittsburg, Oakland, San Ramon, and Burlingame.  I believe Oakland is the cheapest one but the prices are quite affordable.  Depending on the package you select, prices start at $42 which includes invitations, DJ, a choice of sit down or buffet, and is inclusive of venue fees (http://www.wedgewoodbanquet.com/index.htm)
