He saved for a ring for a year, it took me a month to pick out 5 I liked, it took him two months to decide on the ring, two weeks for it to be made and shipped, and two weeks later he proposed.

We had gone shopping before together. I don’t know how long he saved for because he surprised me. He could tell I liked one ring more than others and it was one of the first stores we went to together. From the time he purchased to proposal was a little over a month.

He paid from savings that was from before he even knew me.  And he proposed first, then we designed the ring together, picked a diamond, and waited together.  It was about 6 weeks.

It did not take me long to know what style I wanted, I already knew.  But once engaged we spent time together organzing all the little details.

He knew nothing of diamonds, but trusted me and our jeweler.  I knew some already and the jeweler we used was a trusted family jeweler.

We went to the jewelers once to look, the next time to order and select our diamond, then then to pick it up.

I just knew.  I know what I like and was set on it.

About 7 months – but we were slow and patient shoppers.  Shopped for a few weeks to find a few settings we liked (only went to try on rings two or three times), and then spent another 4-5 months to source a diamond online that we both liked in our budget.  Another couple weeks to finalize the purchase with the jeweller, a month to make the ring, and another week or so shipping between the jeweler, the vendor, and finally to us.  We clearly weren’t in a rush ๐Ÿ™‚

I was involved in every step of the purchase – I’m really picky about jewelry, and enjoy diamond shopping the rare instances I get the opportunity ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband took me shopping as soon as he was ready to purchase. We went shopping together and I picked three rings I would be happy with. He went back about a week later to make the final purchase. He also bought the sapphire that day. There was no need to be concerned about the 4 Cs since we weren’t getting a diamond. He said he did have them bring out several trays of sapphires before he found the one that had the shade of blue he was looking for. He proposed 6 months after the ring came in. He wanted to propose sooner but there was a bunch of health stuff with my mom going on that made it so he had to push it back a bit.

We shopped for the ring together. I’m not sure how long he saved for it, but the shopping process alone took about 3 months. I found the setting I wanted in the very first shopping trip, but it took a LONG time to find the right diamond. He didn’t know much about the 4cs but he has a very sharp eye. He’s super color sensitive and could see inclusions even before having them pointed out. I did a ton of research on the 4cs, but got distracted by sparkles so we made a good team. I think cushion cuts are just harder to shop for so that’s why it took so long. We went probably every single week for the entire 3 months before he bought it. Once he bought the ring, it took about 6 weeks to cast the ring. He ended up proposing before the ring was ready. He proposed with the diamond it had taken us forever to find in a temporary setting and he had it set into the right setting as soon as it came in.

I knew my husband was going to propose, but we never talked about rings and I only ever told him I didn’t want a 3 stone ring. He went with his entire family one night to Jared, picked out my ring, opened up a Jared card, and came home with it. I think they told him about the 4 c’s while he was in store picking out the diamond. We were dating 5 months before engaged, and he proposed the week after he got the ring. He always does things fast.

We talked about engagement in Novemeber, I showed him pictures of rings I liked in December, he bought the ring in April (I’m pretty sure) and proposed in June. Doesn’t sound like that long of a process now that I write it out, but it felt like forever for me at the time haha.

bluegreyeyes :  start to finish diamond selection, setting, creation/design, production, shipping, arrival…….. to proposal date? About 8 months

How long did it take you to decide on a style of ring? it took two months after we first spoke seriously about wedding and timelines for him to start looking. He took a month or so to try figure out himself. Then he decided to be upfront and asked what I wanted. I had done my homework so we went ring shopping that same day for me to show him

Did your SO know about diamonds before buying? No, I thought he did as him and he ex talked about getting engaged. But I found out he has no clue

Did it take him awhile to select the diamond? Was he concerned about the 4Cs? Yes. He asked what ‘C’ was most important to me

Did he “shop around” to get the best value? Yes. Once I showed him what I liked we decided to go the custom route. He shopped around for 3 months ( he had travel planned independently to places known for potentially cheaper diamond prices than where we live and wanted to see what they offer)

How many times did you go shopping? 2

How long did you ponder after trying on rings – was in instant, day of you knew what you wanted? did you do more research after you tried stuff on? did you do additional shopping alone? Instant. The second time was more about stone selection and him figuring my thought process if he had to compromise on any of the ‘C’s. I had done my homework long before we talked about engagement

If he went with an online retailer, how long did the design process take? He went with private jeweller to  make the ring. Took 5-6 weeks (although the jeweller initially said 3-4 weeks)

No idea how long he took to save up… We both started researching on the 4Cs & window shopping for a couple of months ( Maybe 4-6 months?)  and one day we went into a shop to have a look at their rings and when I tried it on we knew found the one! ๐Ÿ™‚ Before I tried rings on I had NO idea what style I wanted…

We knew about the 4Cs but honestly the value & the diamond being beautiful when we looked at it was more important than the specs of the stone ๐Ÿ˜‰

He proposed a month later, I honestly wasn’t expecting it so soon!
