We’re among the happy medium group, the most important thing to me was the cut so we got an ideal hearts and arrows G si2 and it’s lovely.

I’d say definitely happy medium. My ring isn’t huge, center stone is just over 0.9 ct. with a bit over 1 ct. total weight, but it’s a great quality and most importantly – it sits flat against my finger which is great for my active lifestyle – I exercise, ride my horses, and do my hands-on work with it on and never have a problem:

Edited to add: It’s also a custom design and was featured on our Jeweler’s billboard!

We went 1K over budget for cut.  Let me say one thing cold stone straight up – the difference in cut was SIGNIFICANT from (what WE looked at) a “whiter/good cut” to the GIA triple ex cut ‘I’ warmer was hands-down significant.

Bottom line, it is good to reach out here to us ‘armchair gemologist’ (lol! we are some crazy researching bees!) but nothing beats taking a weekend or two to see the comparison of stones IRL at reputable stores.  Seriously, just take a weekend or two to see for yourself what $500 or $1K difference will make.  Just saying, re “quality vs quantity”.

Happy medium – my diamond is GIA Triple Excellent, but borderline on the clarity/color scale – H in color (I never see any warmth), eye clean SI1 (I couldn’t even find the inclusion with the loupe!), my stone is a bit over 2 carats

@LittleMsPumpernickel:  I feel the same exact way about settings!! Not a solitaire fan bc I think that setting doesn’t represent my personality well- its needs to be a lot more complicated!! Lol

Both. I have a 1.77 ideal cut but it is an F (as opposed to D), VS1 (as opposed to IF). DH chose to go slightly under 2 carats with higher quality as opoosed to 2+ with a lower quality stone (though I completely understand that not every large stone is low quality).
