Is anyone else watching the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration of a 1000 boats on the River Thames? I am!
It’s not sit on the edge of your seat exciting, but I’m finding it facinating just the same. The Duchess of Cambridge is wearing a red dress and red hat. The Queen is dress in all white. Of course, all the men in the Royal Family are in uniforms…
Quite interesting. All this kind of makes me wish we had royalty here in the States, because it all seems so much more elegant than anything we have with our government. (Of course, it is hard to get excited about anything our political leaders do, because they all act pretty childish.)
Anyway, I didn’t know if anyone else was watching or not. What do you think about it?

I’m watching! I love the accents, the boats and it looks like one heck of a party 🙂 (oh, and who could forget the HATS!?).

LOVE the hats! Don’t you wish they were more in fashion this side of the Atlantic?

I tried on some fancy-schmancy hats at a mom&pop shop, and I looked ridiculous. I think you need the confidence to pull them off.

I’m totally sick of it. I’m not a royalist and these celebrations have been going on for what feels like my entire life :/

I can only imagine. I’m in the US and I’m still sick of it!! What did we have the damn revolution for if we’re still going to fawn over royalty? lol
Don’t mind me, everyone, I just have a case of the Monday morning grumpies.

@mightywombat: No, not just grumpy – I have to say I agree. In the US, we think the pageantry is pretty, but that’s because it’s someone else’s tax dollars funding the show.
I like the Queen – I admire her, and I’m glad that the UK (whose literature I study and teach, after all) can celebrate this milestone. But I’m not into it.

I just saw something about this on the Today Show, but I don’t understand what the celebration is for!

I loved every second of it! My girlfriend in Sussex and I were comparing notes on the fashion, discussing all of the historical value this means. I thought it was pretty awesome.
Catherine looked amazing in red. Loved the Queen’s white. Camilla looked kind of bland. The guys looked great in their uniforms. The barge was incredible!
Overall, it was pretty cool 🙂
I know in America it’s not really a big deal because we broke free from England but there are still a few of us whose family came from England/Ireland and we still have love for that country and the Queen. My family is one of them 🙂
Long live the Queen! God save the Queen!

@redheadem: It’s for the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

Apparently the English press has been bashing Kate for standing out too much when it is the Queen’s day and also for wearing a dress that has already been seen on a few other celebrities. I think she looks amazing!

@arbuzunia: I did too! She looked incredible and it reminded me of the outfit she wore in Canada. I think the press has a love/hate relationship with everyone lol. It could be they’re just jealous because 1.) she can afford the dress 2.) she’s skinny enough to rock it and 3.) as the future Queen she stood her ground and was proud next to Wills.

I also can’t bear Katherine Middleton. When you get down to it, she’s never really had a job and gave up the part time one she once had to ‘take more me time’ …her words!! She just waited around until he proposed. Sorry to be a sour puss!
I know the Royal family bring in a lot of money for the country but we’re in recession and I can’t believe this much has been spent on the celebrations. To me it’s a bit of a slap in the face given that my pay has been frozen and my pension contributions have just gone up but hey…lets sail 50 boats down the Thames for the Queen!

I don’t care about it at all…
