@SapphireSun:  If someone from BC says suit, it’s definitely time to suit up.

My first job in higher ed (admissions) I didn’t wear a suit to the first interview – and wasn’t offered the job. Their hire quit after 2 weeks after receiving another job offer, and they called me in. One of the women working there mentioned later on that part of the reason I may have been passed at first was because of not wearing a suit. I had just graduated from college and didn’t have one! It was a private institution, and I think that makes a difference.

I just got through a few rounds of interviews with a big 10 university the past couple of months, and wore jackets for each interview. Not necessarily a matching suit, but definitely a jacket of some sort. I was offered this job and started a week ago.

It could certainly help you if you have the time to run out this week and pick a jacket up!

rather be over dress than under dress.. go to H&M/Ann Taylor/LOFT and get at least a black blazer and wear with dress pants or skirt.. if skirt make sure it is at your knee, not too short, and wear opaque tights.. As far as shoes, close toes shoes..

I cringe when i see open toes, platform, bright color shoes at work..

@Duncan:  Yes… considering some of the people that interview with me think they can pass off Lululemon as dress pants…

@SapphireSun:  HULK SMASH is all I have to say to people that think yoga pants are clothes.

@SapphireSun:  Surprised if you are lounging in lululemon yoga pants you should be able to get some slacks at macys! embarrassing!

@APerfectSonnet913:  Def wer pantyhose if you plan on wearing a skirt. If you could buy yourself a black jacket (like in JcPenney) then I think you should be fine. I have always worn suits in all my interviews and they have always been pants. In my very last interview phase, I wore a professional dress with hose and a suit jacket and skirt with hose. Wish you the best of luck on your interview!

@theshannondee:  Well, we don’t have Macy’s here.  Maybe that’s the problem??  Just kidding, there’s plenty of stores where one COULD purchase dress pants, it’s just a VERY casual vibe here.

OP – if you could get away with purchasing a blazer even by itself that might not be too expensive.  I have a blazer that’s grey, but has a black band sewn in that I wear frequently with black pants that aren’t the exact matching pants, but it works well enough.  Something like that would be cheaper for you than buying a whole suit, and you might not want to purchase just a solid colour jacket since it’s sometimes really hard to get your blacks to match with pieces that aren’t purchased together.
