Darling Husband loves bread bowls, I have never eaten one. I wanted to do a cheddar soup in bread bowls for dineer. Can you just buy bread bowls, or do you take rolls and hollow them out, make from scratch.
What is the best way to do them?

Just buy hard sourdough rolls – nice round ones. Cut a round piece out of the top (not all the way down!) and pull a chunk of the bread out.
I’ve never done it at home because it’s just as easy to have bread with soup, but a bread bowl is just soup ladled into a thick piece of bread.

I buy the mini shepherd loaves from the bakery and hollow them out, it’s no biggie AND if you keep the insides you use those to dip!

Like PP said, buy big sourdough rolls and take out some of the bread from the top

The bakery department of most grocery stores usually has mini bread bowls. We got some at Trader Joes for $.99 each last week and had chilli in them. yummy. Just make sure to warm them up before pouring the soup in.

OOOO. Good question, I have never looked at the bakery to see if they have them but I think investigation might be required because that sounds delcious. I have seen king hawaiian bread bowls but only sometimes.

Most local stores have them on hand in the bakery…I have bought them at all local grocery stores all of my life.

@mija22: Mine didn’t have any so I ended up using the largest rolls they had.
They turned out great and Darling Husband was suprised. Even the kids liked them. They will definately be a regular through out the winter.
