@hksnoopy:  As long as you don’t make an exact replica (ie make some changes to the design), it is totally fine. Many ring designs are not even copywrited, which is why so many different shops often offer identical settings.

It’s perfectly fine as long as it’s not a carbon copy.  Change a few things (stone size or shape, angles, prongs), and presto, you’ve got a legally ok ring.

Don’t forget to shop at the websites of casting houses like Stuller or Adwar.  You can find plenty of ideas (or even your dream setting for cheaper than custom) there πŸ™‚

how exciting, congratulations! 

as pp said, definitely look at online sites for settings and check out other jewellery stores too.  to buy a setting already done is soooo much cheaper than a custom setting.  i had mine custom and it was ridiculous.  they wanted to customize my band too but i got one from stock elsewhere for 1/2 the price and 2x the ctw.
