If you go to some place that knows what they are doing it is totally great! I love shellac and gel! It lasts for about 2 weeks on me and I am rough on my nails!

Do it! I started getting gel manis when I was waiting and I totally fell in love with them. I’m the girl who generally messes up her nails before making it to the car. Not just a little wrinkle, but I totally destroy at least one nail. Gel is PERFECT for me. And lasts for a solid 2-3 weeks. This is with rock climbing, digging in the dirt, and mountain biking. They do take longer to take off (I bought finger wraps and do them at home), but I have not had any damage to my nails!

Shellac is amazing, you would be crazy not to do it for your wedding!

I wish I new about it when I got married, I had my nails done on Thursday and by saturday I had already chipped one. With shellac that would not of happened!

I got my first gel manicure the day before my wedding. It looked great, and it did not ruin my nails. Go for it 🙂

For me it comes down to color selection versus longevity.  Shellac will usually last a full two weeks.  Gel can too, but if I am not really careful there can be visible chips after a week or even less.  Both will last longer if your nails are relatively flat, without  much curve.  Gel has the larger selection of color.  Shellac needs no drying – you can put hands in your pockets as soon as you are done.   Gel dries just like regular polish.   Both look and feel extremely natural if done well.

I always go for shellac if I am going to be away on a vacation longer than a long weekend and would definitely consider for a wedding or honeymoon.  The key is  not to  let the nails get to the point where they are too grown out. I usually  do  regular manicures, but for special occasions they are great.

I wouldn’t. I’m surprised by PP’s replies because I have met so many people who have ruined nails from shellac. It can take of several layers of of your nails. i know some people think its just your nails, they’ll grow back but the payoff is just not worth it to me. Just my opinion.

I adore Shellac and on my nails it can last up to four weeks!  The only problem is it KILLS my nails.  I have so much damage from the last lot I got for engagement photos.  My nails used to be healthy and strong so I’m kinda sad about it.  But regardless, I’m going to do it again for the wedding because it’s really the only way to get my nails looking absolutely perfect.  Here’s a photo from our engagement pics:

I’ve been getting gel manis every 2 weeks since September, and I have to say..I wouldn’t have my nails any other way for my wedding!! Absolutely do it. IMO, Shellac is less adhesive than most other gel brands…I’d try Gelish or IBD brand. IBD also has regular polish in shades that match their gel-that’s what I usually get so that I know I have an exact match.

I really dislike gel/shallac for me. I do not regularly get manicures done at a salon. Once in awhile, I will get a manicure done for a special event.

When I want to take off the gel, I end up destroying my nails/sanity at home trying to soak in hot water and rip the polish off. Even if I go back to the salon, THEY have a hard time getting it off of my nails. Maybe it’s just my nails?

For the record, I got a regular manicure done at a salon last Tuesday and I don’t have so much as a chip as of right now (6 days). I’ve done dishes every day, barbecued, hit softballs at batting cages, etc. So I have not been “precious” with my mani and it still looks good!

If you go to salons regularly, gel/shallac might be good because it does last longer. A regular mani lasts about 2 weeks before I get chips. A gel lasts 3-4. My only real problem is the part where it’s time to take the mani off, lol. Either one looks beautiful!

ETA: I do have naturally strong, long nails if it matters. I understand that some get gel/shellac to give a firmer, stronger feel to their nails!

@babycakes24:  Which place in MA are you thinking of getting it done at?
