We’ve been NTNP for a year now but technically at least 5 or 6 of those cycles I’m almost postive we missed due to his work and he was back and forth states helping his grandparents move back home. We kind of figured if it happens then great.
I’m getting a little aggravated because I think I stupidly thought I’d be pregnant by now. My cycles are regular (27-29 days) but I really don’t know when I ovulate. I usually have EWCM where my app *says* I’m ovulating but I know thats not a determining factor. I also know that apps can be way off so I don’t put too much hope into them.
So I’ve decided to start temping to figure out when I’m ovulating. My question is, should it be EXACTLY at the same time everyday? I have an annoying work schedule and 3 days out of the week I get up at 6:40 AM, one day I get up at 7:00 AM, and the other day I get up at 6:10 AM. Should I just start getting up at 6:10 AM from now on? I don’t want to screw up any temps by getting up 45 minutes later or something like that.

I think the general “rule” is that it should be the exact same time everyday. I found that as long as I was within 20-30 minutes I was fine

Glasgowbound : Okay awesome so I think on the days I wake up at 7:00 I’ll wake up earlier so it’s not too far off from any other day.

linnoix : I’d try to be consistent at least the first month so you understand your patterns, over time, you can test varying wake up times and see if you’re still getting good enough data to work with.
I set an alarm for my earliest day, temp then, and then go back to sleep. My thermometer stores my temp so I don’t even have to remember the number.

linnoix : You could easily temp correct each of the days to 6:40. So you’d take your temperature at 6:10 one day, and put the temperature in a temp corrector for 6:40. I think you’d really only have to do that if you find your temps are sensitive. On the weekends, though, I’d plan to set an alarm for the same time as during the week or temp correct. If you’re not sure when you’re ovulating, you should use OPKs the first couple cycles so you can get a heads up about when you’re going to ovulate.

I have not yet started temping but in your shoes I’d just set my alarm every day for 6:10 to take my temp and go back to sleep on the days that allow.
