Hello my fellow bees! I have a question regarding tipping. If I hire a freelance make-up artist (meaning she can choose whatever she charges and it is cash in her pocket) should I still tip her? I know if it was in a salon where they were only making a portion of the cost then it would be a definite but, I am a little unsure in this situation. She is coming to me but, will also be charging me extra for that. I don’t want to not tip her if I should but, if it isn’t expected I wouldn’t mind saving that money either.

I wouldn’t- since she’s getting the money that you are paying (except her use of supplies). I would if she did a spectacular job though

No–as you said, she is the owner of her own business and so sets her own prices. If she comes with a helper though I would tip that person.

I didn’t even think about this! I’m actually having my trial this weekend, and was wondering if I’m supposed to tip for the trial (I am paying for the trial; it’s separate from the day-of cost). But it sounds like since she’s a freelance makeup artist, not only do I not tip for the trial, but I also don’t tip at the wedding. This seems so strange, and I’m afraid it will seem rude! Are there any freelance makeup artists out there who can comment?

@krobbie: Good idea! I would love to hear from someone that does this for a living!
