Ok ladies, I am at the point now that I should be looking for my wedding band. I have my e ring and we purchased FI’s wedding band last week. Here is my dilemma. My e ring is palladium. I don’t particularly like any of mco’s wedding bands so I don’t want to order one I may not like. Platinum is out of our price range, and I know wearing white gold next to my palladium e ring will hurt the wedding band. My question is this…I LOVE the look of stacks. I was thinking, what if I get my dream wedding band, in 14k white gold and also get an inexpensive stacking band for in between my e ring and wedding band??? That way the conitnuity of my wedding band stays intact, and the palladium of the e ring will do whatever damage it does to the less expensive, less important stacking band. Please give me some advice, I had no idea it would be so confusing. I know that white gold looks different than palladium, I tried on a few white gold w bands at helzberg and I could tell the difference, but finding palladium wedding bands in my price range is proving difficult – I’ve looked on etsy and I just get confused too easily. What would you guys do? Side note: I’d like to keep my wedding band under $400
ETA: I prefer a marquise and dot with milgrain wedding band – or something very similar. All jewelry stores I have looked at only sell them with VERY dainty widths and I need something a little more substantial – around 2-2.5mm to keep up with my e ring.

Putting a less expensive band between your wedding ring and engagement ring is not going to protect your wedding band. I couldn’t find anything that said you couldn’t wear white gold with palladium, or that palladium would ruin white gold. Yes, palladium is harder than white gold, but you’re not going to be beating the gold with the palladium. Plus, the white gold will need to be rhodium plated every once in a while, so the damage will be minium.

Have you seen this one? I know it’s a little out of budget but maybe ask for it to be made a half eternity? That can save some money. Marquise and bead
I’m not a fan of mixing white metals. I almost think that if you’re going to do it and love stacking, why not try a yellow or rose band in between? Even if it looks ok now they will age differently.

Oooh I’m a fan of that marquise and bead posted by
hollandaisey: ! It seems like it will substantial enough (2.5mm) and you can get it in palladium! One thing you might want to keep in mind is that palladium and white gold are very different colors. Palladium is like a pewter color and white gold is very bright from the rhodium. Maybe you might want to try unplated white gold?
I don’t think there will be a huge problem with wear over the years. I’ve got mixed white golds in my set (14k and 18k) and I’m not worried.

Also, it looks like the one I posted is the most expensive… Some of the thinner options are less. Sorry, should have looke more. But they are all listed in the eternity band section, and you can ask for them to be made half or 3/4 eternity, they are nice about it.

Have you talked to a jeweler about getting one made? In the beginning I was looking at getting my Fiance band made and I had the option of WG or palladium. You might be able to get what you want in the metal you want.

Loribeth: I read that palladium could wear down white gold like platinum will because it is a stronger metal. A jeweller told me this too. I would prefer to not have white gold, as it is too white and I don’t want to re-dip which is why I chose palladium for my e ring.

hollandaisey: I actually sent mco an email regarding the similar one that has the milgrain detail. I asked them specifically if it could be made as a half eternity to cut down on cost. If they can accommodate that, then I’ll be set!! Thank you for your reply 🙂

Someday_Mrs_Maguire: Quick question… Was it an actual jeweler who told you that or a salesperson who works for a jewelry store. They’re not the same thing. I worked for a jewelry store, and we were instructed to tell peole those kinds of things because it encourages customers to spend more money. The entire time I worked there, I never saw any rings that were damaged by wearing different metals next to each other.
It sounds like you’ve hopefully found a solution! Yeay!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Loribeth: Thank you!! Ya know, the first time we went there, it was the actual jeweller. I never questioned it because this was before I had my e ring. When we went in to buy FI’s band, I asked the man who was working…who thinking back now, must’ve just been a sales associate. Oh wtf, I never even thought of that lol. Well, I don’t want white gold anyway when I really think of it. I do love the look of rose gold mixed in with my ring though, so maybe a stack is in my future. Thanks for your advice!

Someday_Mrs_Maguire: If you don’t want white gold, then defintely do not get white gold. The only thing I wish I could change about my rings is that they were made of platinimum instead of white gold. I hate having to give it up for a week to ten days to have it rhodium plated. Post pictures when you find out if they can do the half eternity band.
ETA: I absolutely LOVE rose gold. I bet it would look fantastic.
