Question – Dress Order Timing

My dress was ordered in November 2016 and I was told it should arrive around August 2017. My wedding is in June 2018. My designer is known for having a longer timeframe than most bridal gown designers. I purposefully went dress shopping early so I wouldn’t have to scramble in the months leading up to my wedding. I think it’s a little weird that they do it based on wedding date, but I really don’t know. Did they tell you when to expect it when you ordered it? I would be worried that if it was ordered wrong or didn’t fit right that 2 months isn’t enough time to find a new dress. I would call them and ask if you can get it sooner. Maybe they can ask the designer to put your dress higher up in their queue.

I wouldn’t be ok with this. My dress came in April for my October wedding and I was getting freaked out around march when I hadn’t heard. What if something is wrong?

ac27 :  That is a lie. The bridal shop never ordered the gown. Sottero and Midgley takes typically ~2-4 months to ship to the store, based on when the order was placed. The bridal shop hasn’t placed the order yet. Why? I’m not sure. Likely, the price will increase if they wait. Is the style still running or was it discontinued? Go to the designer’s website and type in the style nubmer to make sure it is still available.

ac27 :  Wow, I’m sorry about that. The bridal shop sounds really unprofessional. There’s no way a dress should take over a year.

But it is probably too late to take your business elsewhere since you still need alterations. Hopefully, the dress arrives in short time like they say it will.

ac27 :  Ordered my Casablanca dress in Aug. It did not come in until April for my June wedding.

ac27 :  Re: Sottero & Midgley – Having worked for a bridal store that carried this brand, ordering in April for an August wedding is cutting it close.  We always advised 5-7 months for a dress.  Sometimes they came in early, sometimes they came a few days late.  Sometimes a dress would be in stock and they’d send it within a week – and then there would be a bride claiming we lied about the ship date. We had NO control over this.

Put simply, if you’re working with a reputable, official retail store for the brand, the designer typically won’t allow you to place an order if it’s too close.  You’ll get it in time with time for alterations (should take about 3 weeks to get a dress altered).  Just wanted to let you know the store’s perspective…(if they are indeed on the up and up)

ac27 :  AH!!!!! BIG Difference! Sorry about that! Something is indeed fishy then…..you can always contact Sottero & Midgley and make sure the store you’re dealing with is an official dealer.  Jeez, I’m SO sorry!!

ac27 :  They’re lying to you. I also ordered a Sottero and Midgley dress. It came 6 months after I ordered it, and it’s still over a year until my wedding.

I ordered my sottero and midgely at the end of May last year, and it came in three months later AND I live in New Zealand, ages away from everything.
