So I just switched meds from Cipralex to Prozac, and the guy at the pharmacy told me to take it with food. I googled it to make sure it wasn’t an absorption issue, and no; apparently it can cause stomach upset.
The problem is that I fast twice a week, and I don’t really want to stop. Anyone taking Prozac want to tell me your experience? Do you think I’ll get a stomach ache if I take it first thing in the morning with a glass of water and some antacids?

My son has been on this medication for 18 months now.
He has to have something to eat with it or he gets a stomach ache. He always has his medication in the morning with his breakfast.
They took time to start working but his overall happiness now is so much better.

I’m not on Prozac, but I am on another drug that is a “take with food” because of upset stomach issues. I knew the first time I took that it was a lot easier with food. Everytime I take it without, I’m struggling not to throw up for about 45 minutes. Try the Prozac once while fasting and without antacids. You’ll probably figure out whether or not you can handle it.

I’ve been taking it for 2 years and was never told to take it with food. I just take it before bed and have never had a problem.

Prozac doesnt bother my stomach at all, and I can get acid easily.

I have taken it without food and have experienced an upset stomach. I wouldn’t recommend it. I think it can be managed if you drink a lot of water when you take it, or eat a slice of toast. It doesn’t have to be anything major

Thanks for all the responses. I guess it can go either way, eh? Not sure why I was expecting to hear all one thing or the other, lol. I’ll just have to try it and see how it works out.

I’ve been taking 40 mg of Prozac since June of 2011. I never take it with food! It doesn’t bother me if I do though.
