I am thinking of DIY’ing gold glitter mason jars. The directions I see various places online tell you to paint the outside. Is there a reason everyone does that rather than painting the gold INSIDE? In theory I feel like that would look a lot cleaner.
Anyone have experience with painting mason jars who can offer some tips?

BostonStacy: because if you intend to put water in the jar (for fresh flowers) then the water can mess up the paint job.

BostonStacy: It depends on how you plan to use them. If you are using them for flowers, you would have to coat the paint on the inside with a coat of polyurethane so the stems wouldn’t scratch the paint.
Painting the inside does give a lovely finish when viewed from the outside, which remains smooth and glossy.

If you do end up having to do the outside, then spray paint may be a better option to get a smooth finish. If you make sure to go slowly and do thin layers then you could avoud running and you don’t have to worry about brush strokes. I’m not sure what look you’re going for what these gold glitter dipped ones are pretty fantastic:
