When my parent’s lapdogs (chihuahua & min pin) go outside, they wear sweaters.  As for the big dogs, they actually live outside all year long, so they’re pretty acclimated to cold weather and don’t need jackets…and before anyone thinks we’re cruel for leaving the dogs outside (live in Colorado), my dad built a doghouse and insulated it with polyurethane foam (what my parents home is insulated with and it’s da bomb), so their doghouse is insulated better than some people’s homes. lol  On the nights it’s bitterly cold (below zero), we do bring the dogs into the house.  Although, we had this one dog that no matter what we did, he refused to come inside the house.  One time, I picked him up (he weighed about 65 lbs lol) and after putting him inside the house, before I could turn around to shut the door, he had already bolted outside.  That dog really was a true outdoors dog. lol

@locket: I love your min pin!!!  My parents have one and she has such personality, even if she is a big diva’ish. lol Your pic is so stinkin cute.  One year, I found a pink lace night for a dog (not lying) and got it for her.  She pranced around for hours after we put that on her.  She loves nothing more than to be pampered and play dress up. lol

I put my dog’s (Chris) coat on last night and took these pics. I only use it for snowy weather. He doesn’t need it just for cold weather, though. I don’t think he was happy I put on his winter coat! He was giving me the pathetic face. (Aw, Mom, I gotta wear this right now?” 🙂

We have a sweater for our dog that we will put on him for a walk if its really cold out. We dont put it on him for just letting him outside. He has very short hair and gets cold easily but if we are just letting him out to do his business he is out there for a very short time.

Na our lab spent all day in the summer trying to get the bandana off her neck, and she did get it off …. i can’t imagine that a sweater would stay on too long.  she has a really thick coat, as she spends alot of time outside.  All my neighbors have dogs too and even the tiny one, well it’s not out long, has a sweater.  Just the neighbors cat, they put a sweater and a leash on her, she thinks she’s a dog.

I have two very small yorkies, and they wear shirts all winter to keep them warm — or else they’ll hurry back inside BEFORE they do all their business and try to hide it behind the fridge 🙂 Its practicality for me!

Our dog is a medium sized terrier and he doesn’t like wet/rainy/cold weather but when we got a lot of snow the last couple weeks he LOVED it – like went berserk and couldn’t get enough time outside.  I don’t think he would mind if I tried to put a jacket on him but I don’t think he needs it…
