My Darling Husband and I got our hotel room (just for the wedding night) upgraded – We actually didn’t even tell them we were on our honeymoon! We got to the hotel (I had already changed out of my dress) and the person at the desk asked us if we were recently married.  We said yes, that day… She said “Oh good! Then I picked the right couple!” She explained that the best suite in the hotel wasn’t booked that night, so she was told to upgrade somebody!

Such a fun surprise and a huge blessing 🙂 Unfortunately, we had to leave at 5 in the morning to go to the airport… Oh well, it was so nice for the night 🙂

Yes! We mentioned that it had been my first time ever flying so I was really stressed out but just happy that we were there officially starting our honeymoon and they upgraded us for free to a 150 dollar more per night room. We were booked for a 6 night stay so it was a huge surprise that they did that for free. Would have never been able to afford that much more per night so we were very thankful.

Oh I just remembered we got a big discount on an upgrade for our rental car that we booked as well. Use it to its fullest I say haha. Got to drive a convertable in Hawaii that we wouldnt have booked due to price otherwise. Good times.

We got our wedding night hotel room upgraded. We haven’t been able to go on a honeymoon yet. We actually showed up and it was already upgraded because as a surprise a few people went over to our room right after the wedding to decorate it and leave us some food. So when they told the hotel what they were there for they must have upgraded it then.

My husband and I took a cruise for our honeymoon, but no one did anything special for us. We met a ton of fellow honeymooners on the cruise, though, so maybe there were just so many of us that the cruise line couldnt’ keep up!

@misslene:  Yeah, we didn’t get any cruise upgrades either… Too bad!

It depends on where you go- If you go anywhere that is popular with honeymooners then the chances of upgrades or special gifts is slim to none but if you go somewhere that doesn’t see honeymooners very often then you may. A lot of resorts also have a standard across the board upgrade/extra for honeymooners- for example in Thailand most hotels offer an upgrade, a honeymoon cake and flowers subject to availability. You need to ask your TA or when booking.

Also if you go to a popular holiday destination then chances of an upgrade are less likely due to the hotel being booked solid etc.

Our suite for the wedding night was free, but it is a gift that the hotel offers all married couples who use their ballroom for the reception. They also include a free stay in the suite on your 1-year anniversary. While this wasn’t a surprise upgrade, it was really nice!
