Because it’s lab-grown there are many people manufacturing it now. The ones you see for $25 probably have a green or yellowish undertone. All moissy is not created equal, as I understand.

@msuttman8:  hi! I have lots of moissanite – an engagement ring with an OEC stone about J colour, an RB forever one necklace DEF colour and the early “classic moissanite” earrings which I think are around I colour. I’ve seen the colour difference between DEF and GHI moissanite and I’d definitely go for the whiter stone. You won’t be disappointed, it’s lovely! The DEF has an ice blue tint in sunlight, the GHI has an ivory cream tint. You can find lots of video comparisons on YouTube!

You can absolutely see the color difference with the naked eye.

I prefer white stones myself, and the only way I’d consider a GHI is as an old cut in a yellow or rose gold setting. I’m starting to think old cuts look nicer with a little warmth?

All moissy are not created equal, I agree. I got a couple of $100 range sterling silver rings where the stone was supposedly moissy. It didn’t look like CZ, but it also didn’t sparkle like moissy. It did put off that moissy glow in cloudy lighting, however. It was a pale imitation of my C&C moissy.

If you don’t want to pay C&C pricing, I’d look into Moissanite &Co

I would not get a $25 moissanite! I bid on one from Ebay and won and when I got it it was greenish!!! Here is a def and a ghi so you can see the difference I’ll post a def round also. Hope this helps and good luck finding your moissanite!

@kevinsbee:  I absolutely adore both your princess cuts!! I know I already told you that when you showed me all 4 of yours. By the way, I took a photo shot of that to save. I hope you don’t mind. I just love when other people share their princess cuts too.

@msuttman8:  welcome to the world of moissy. If this is your first stone you might also want to consider some of the Chinese vendors, they will be way cheaper and their stones are as beautiful for a fraction of the cost. I’ve been urging people to check out the Reddit sub on moissanites. Tons of helpful info, reviews, photos and videos and it’s a supportive and fun community. Good luck!!!

Hi I have a GHI Charles & Colvard, I’ll attach a pic! I chose a GHI because I personally don’t like the blue-grey “icy” look. But in my opinion my stone looks super white, it never looks even slightly warm, at least not to my eyes. It is set in yellow gold so maybe that’s why 🙂
