Did you find that people reacted negatively when you said that you wanted to be pregnant/are pregnant with cats in your household? I find that I run into this CONSTANTLY. Any time I say anything about wanting a baby, people that know we have cats jump and say that I must get rid of my kitties when I have a baby. My Mother-In-Law goes as far as to say, “HA! Well, if your children end up allergic to those cats, you will have to get rid of them or I’m taking your baby home.”
Why would anyone say that? Is it that hard to understand that pets honest to goodness become family to us almost as much as humans do?
This is one of our babies, Stella. (Our other cat is a calico that does nothing of interest to photograph. She is currently passed out above my head on the couch -__-)

Actually no one has said that to me, and people know how obsessed I am with my cats. Right now they ARE my babies.

Not that I’m preg or TTC but I’ve never heard this lol.. My parents had a cat while my mom was preg with me, and the little fur-ball lived until I was 17! I came out just fine 🙂

The only one who has ever asked or mentioned baby and cat in the same sentence was my OB to make sure I wasnt changing the litter myself.

Growing up with animals DECREASES chances for allergies!! Tell them to do some scientific research before they preach! While I don’t have cats now I don’t see a reason to get rid of pets at all! I did take an infant safety course that made sure to emphasis training kitties not to sleep in cribs because infants can’t roll away from the cuddle-monster and that could cause a SIDS risk.

We have a cat and it never came up. Only DH complained be cause he was the one that had to clean the cat box while I was pregnant!

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my beautiful friends daughters death. She died in the womb at 6 months from Toxoplasmosis which they doctors believe was passed on to her from her cats 🙁 Be careful ladies, always wash your hands and don’t let the cats on the kitchen bench or dining table.

What a ridiculous thing for people to say to you. I would be so offended if anyone said anything to me about getting rid of my feline baby.
You just have to be more cautious about litter, just like you have to be more cautious about food. I can’t believe people are saying that to you. Maybe I’m just a well-known cat lady and thats why nobody ever said anything to me while it was an issue.

how terrible! i have 2 cats and am currently pregnant. i dont change their litter but it does worry me that they get into EVERYTHING, always having to tell them to get off our tables and counters. one of them in particular is obsessed with me so he’s always trying to climb in my lap, i can usually avoid him being on top of me while i’m awake but while im asleep is a diff story…

This is what I know of cats and pregnancy. This article might better help settle an understanding…

Yup she didn’t change their litter but they do step in their own litter box then walk all over the house including places where she ate. So so sad 🙁

OP i get this from my fam ALL THE TIME, they’ve never liked that i had cats so it doesnt surprise me they are opposed to us having our kitties now that i’m pregnant. they do tend to put fear in me about my cats attacking the baby, smothering or baby ingesting cat hair since they shed so much. I try to remember alot of these things can be avoided/remedied but it does get annoying hearing them bitch about how bad it is that i still plan to keep my kitties when i have a baby on the way.

We haven’t had anything like that at all no. Sounds like these people just don’t like cats or they just jerks. Sorry, I guess you can’t do anything about it if they’re family. I would just say something like well that’s you opinion or yeah we’ll see and then leave it at that.
