Okay, I upgraded to Snow Leopard last week (I know, I’m way behind the times ;P). Previously (running Leopard), Firefox and Safari ran pretty comparably on my MacBook, but since upgrading, I’ve noticed a significant difference in speed using Safari. Firefox just seems to freeze up for no discernable reason, pages loading forEVer.
Aaaaanyway, I spent half an hour moving my hundreds of (mostly wedding-planning) bookmarks over to Safari this morning, and am finally ready to make the switch to using Safari as my default web browser. I’m kind of lamenting though, because I had my firefox customised like CRAZY, and am already having trouble adjusting. I’ve found all the standard options for customising Safari (I think…), but was wondering if anyone knew of a good site for add-ons/extensions for Safari.
Specifically, I am looking for an add-ons similar to firefox’s:
–Download Status Bar (puts downloads into the status bar instead of in a separate window)
–Forecast Fox (puts current weather info and a 2 day forecast into the status bar; surprisingly accurate)
–Smart Bookmarks Bar (hides names of bookmarks in Bookmarks Bar and replaces them with the icon for that site, saves lots of space)
I realize this is totally random, and these aren’t deal breakers, but they DO make my life easier (more streamlined), and I like them all an awful lot. If you use something similar in Safari, I’d love to know about it! Thanks!!

So, I don’t really have any helpful suggestions for Safari add-ons, because I am horrible at organizing my web browser. But I totally had the same problem. I was a die hard Firefox user, and it just became SO sluggish on my iMac. So after much debate and some bretrayal I switched over to Safari and now love it. The functionality is just so much better with the mac. Hopefully you are coming to like it too!

I’m not sure about Safari add-ons, but I use the dashboard weather forecast, and I’ve found that to be pretty accurate. It’s not always up, of course, you have click the dashboard icon, but it’s good enough for me.

firefox just put an update out, have you updated yet? I noticed that it got faster after this most recent upgrade.

As soon as I installed Snow Leopard, I upgraded my Firefox and actually noted a significant improvement in performance compared to before. Thank goodness because I was about to switch to either Chrome or Safari permanently.

ooh this popped up after a long period of deadtime! I’ll go search for that firefox update now…
I don’t THINK I’ve updated in a while.
I’m actually rather displeased with snow leopard. My computer has been running way slower since I upgraded, and when I use safari (I use it when firefox gets stupid-slow, and usually in a few minutes firefox revives itself), about half the time, it (safari) crashes!
ridiculous. Seriously, the other day I said to J, “My mac is acting like a pc, what’s wrong with it?!”

it sounds like there might be something else going on there aside from the snow leopard thing. have you taken it in?

Did you have a faulty install? I’ve been so much *more* solid since the upgrade. I’m running faster and it seems to be more stable than previously, which is good because I was starting to get bogged down.

Seriously, right? I don’t think Snow Leopard’s all that great.
I had Tiger before though! I never updated to Leopard. Whoops….

I don’t have a mac care account or whatever it’s called, because 11 months out of the year, I don’t live in the US (and trust me, there’s no support in China, haha). Well… I guess I’ll be moving ‘home’ this summer to get married. And I’m in the States now.
What exactly would I tell them? “I feel like my computer has gotten stupid since I installed snow leopard.” ? laaaaame.
You really think I should get it checked out? Firefox and Safari are the only things that have been acting up (not that I’ve used a lot else on my winter break); mostly safari bogs down my whole computer when I’m running it, I think. It runs fine if Safari is not running. Maybe I should look for an updated version of Safari…
LOVE FF3.6 though!
