Atlantic City is a great choice, because you can go to the beach all day there and still have stuff to do at night as well. Another option could be Belmar, the beach is beautiful there and there are plenty of bars around if you are looking to do something at night.

I wouldn’t go to AC beach during the day because Brigantine is so much nicer.  It is literally 5 minutes away and is a quintessential little beach town.  As far as being family friendly, none of the beaches in NJ that I am aware of technically allow alcohol.  Brigantine is definitely a family friendly beach.  AC beach is just a little scuzzy, but you don’t need a beach badge.

I don’t know anything about the hotels in Brigantine, but the beaches are nice, and it is very close to AC.  Actually, Harrahs, Borgata, and Trump Marina are technically in Brigantine, but near the bay.  I think all of the NJ beaches, besides AC proper, require beach badges (to show you paid to use the beach).

In Brigantine, I don’t know how much $ they are now, but basically teenagers come around (wearing white shirts) and you need to show them your badge or buy one for a day on the beach.  If you pretend you are sleeping they might go away, or if you say really nicely that you were going to leave in 20 minutes.  I usually just get up and start walking either into the water or in the opposite direction when I see them.

I’m from south jersey so I would say nix AC for the beach. Dirty and too much riff raff wondering around. Brigantine is very nice and still close o AC if you want to party…at your risk of course. Wilwood is cool, seaside heights, sea isle city…a lot of options

You’ve probably made your decision by now, but I have 2 cents I want to throw in.

Try Asbury Park! My handle is “MissTillie” so you know I’m biased, but really, give it a try! The city has a bad reputation for crime (exaggerated IMO), but that’s fine because it keeps the annoying “Jersey Shore” types away. As long as you stick to the east side of town you’ll be fine.

Prices are cheap for a shore town too. Bars & clubs will rarely charge a cover and there are plenty of choices from charming dives to high class lounges. The town is pretty small so everything is pretty much within walking distance from everything else. Beach passes were only $5 per day starting memorial day last I checked. I’ve had many a fun weekend in good old AP!
