Sorry I feel like an idiot asking this…but when you cut the cake, did you have to take the ribbon off? What do you do with it? And if your cake was buttercream frosted instead of fondant, was it messy? Sorry just a random question I have been wondering about!

When we cut it, it just squished down if that makes sense. Ours was buttercream and it wasn’t messy.

Huh. Interesting. Thanks for the response!

Yup, it get’s squished down. Or the other option, is to have your baker make a fondant ribbon, so you can cut right through it. Yeah… I didn’t want to pay extra so I was fine with the squished ribbon.

We actually DIY our cake, and we used a boutineer pin to hold the ribbon together in the back where we were planning to cut it. We actually never got to do the cake cutting (loooong story), but I imagine it would have been fine. 🙂

It just got squished down and came off one the side we cut but it wasn’t messy at all. You can’t tell at all from the other side. Once we cut the first slice, the caterer just took it away to finish cutting. Don’t worry – it’ll be fine! 🙂
