If you made your own favors, how far in advance did you get started? We’re doing our own hot chocolate & apple cidar mix cones and I am so excited to get started, but the wedding is still 6 months and 3 weeks away. I don’t want to start too soon and have them get dusty or otherwise unpleasant, so how far out would you recommend?

I didn’t make my own favors but did make a lot of other stuff. ABSOLUTELY start ASAP! The more you can get done in advance, the better.
When you say cones, what kind of seal do the packages have on them? I’m picturing the mix sealed in something airtight, like a plastic baggie. That will definitely be fine for 6 months.
I am so so so so glad I did as much in advance as I did. Everything takes longer than you think it will and life has a way of happening at inconvenient time (moving, illness, work, whatever).

I’m doing edible favors, so I can’t do mine too far out in advanced. For all of the other things I did (tissue packets, Out of Town bags, etc), I simply stored them in plastic bags and I haven’t had a problem with dust or discoloring.

I’m doing edible favors, making them the weekend before the wedding.

@MsSparklyBee: + 1. I had the mothers help me make smores packets. I didn’t want them hard or stale so we made them the weekend before.
You can do alot or prep work to help: favour tags printed and cut, ribbons pre cut, sorting, etc and assmble just before. It goes pretty quick. 🙂

I am doing edible favors as well, but canned/bottled so they will keep basically forever. I am not doing many DIY things that can’t be done far in advance, because I hate leaving things for the last minute! I would say as soon as you are set on an idea, get started!
