- Wedding: October 2014 - Vegas baby!
Ok, so I have a unique little situation here…I have two children, 5 and 3 so I have been through this before, HOWEVER, this time is a little different.
I am on birth control, have been for about 2 1/2 years. I’ve missed a few pills here and there, recently mostly, and my periods have been screwed up. Last cycle for example lasted 18 days, I bled for 18 days!! :'( So, I took myself off of the birth control for a week, so I could start fresh. I have been taking it like I should, same time every day.
Well, I haven’t felt right..just not myself for the past few weeks. I take a lot of medication and thought I was having side effects. I grabbed a pg test just to check and be on the safe side. I am not “late”, however I have no idea when my period is going to come because of my pill screw up. I took the test and it was negative. A few hours later I looked at the test again because I am a paranoid freak, and saw a faint positive plus sign. I am not sure if it is an evaporation line or not. (I know they say not to look at a test after 10 minutes…ugh) I can’t get another test until tomorrow…I took this test 2 days ago and I’m kinda freaking out!
Sorry this might be a little confusing and long winded, but do you ladies think I could be pregnant or maybe it was a false reading/evaporation line? Thank you!!!

Hey, so when you were off the BC for that week..did you have unprotected sex?

@OhBeeHive84: No. We waited until I started my new pack. I just don’t know whether or not to trust that faint little line. When I had my two kids, I knew when I was ovulating, and had never taken birth control, so that’s why I’m so unsure this time.

I know they say not to read it after the 10 minutes but I have seen quite a few bees that had that happen and they WERE pregnant. I would take another test of a different brand.

@travellingfool: I second this. False positives are rare. I got my very strong BFP after holding in my pee for a few hours, for me this was more accurate than testing with my first morning urine. Get an early response test or a digital if you tried something else before and test again after you haven’t gone in 4-5 hours with little to drink. Fingers crossed!

The same thing happened to me. I took a test, said negative, so I threw it out. Just because I’m paranoid, I checked again about an hour later. It was positive. I wasn’t due for my period fort another 2 days. I had 1 left so I decided to wait 3 days to take another. This time I got a very faint positive right away. And when I say faint I mean I had to put it up to the light to see the line. Went to the dr a week later and got it confirmed by u/s and blood work.

@Someday_Mrs_Maguire: I would do a digital just to be sure, I got a faint positive after about a half hour, and I was pregnant, just too early to tell at the time.

I did the same thing last month– pulled a test out of the garbage WAY past the time limit, and it had a very faint line, so I totally convinced myself I was pregnant (we are TTC). I wasn’t, it was just an evap line, and that’s why they tell you not to take it out of the garbage! I would go to a dollar store and grab a bunch to have on hand, then you can just take one whenever you are feeling off like this and not waste a ton of money. When I was freaking out over my evap line, I read so many stories of people whose ‘evap’ line turned out to be positive, so I just wanted to let you know that at least for me, it was just an evap line.
Good luck, I hope it works out the way you want it to. I would say it is doubtful that you are pregnant, if you didn’t have unprotected sex while you were off, but not impossible, since even with perfect use it’s possible to get preg on the pill.
