Hey bees maybe some of you can help me out! The photographer that I want to do our wedding photos has a package that doesn’t come with an album, she does give us the rights to do whatever we want with the photos and she will have them edited and uploaded onto a cd for prints.
Are any of you working with a photographer that doesn’t include an album? What are the pros and cons about this? Did you have success in finding an excellent printing company and album company? What would you recommend?

The package we chose with our (amazing) photographer doesn’t include an album. We chose not to upgrade to it because of the great expense! We do, however, get full rights to the images, so I plan on putting together a book with Blurb or Shutterfly, both of which I’ve had good experiences with. The books that I’ve made through these sites rival the quality and style that I’ve seen in professional albums. The only downside is that I don’t personally know of an album company (that non-pros can use) that can create those really thick (cardboard thick) pages, but we don’t want those pages anyway, so it’s no drawback for us. Good luck!

We chose a package that doesn’t include an album. We both have photo editing skills and we plan on making our own album through something like Blurb or Shutterfly. It really depends on what you want. If you want something fancy like an Italian-leather bound album with thick pages (think coaster thick), I don’t think that’s something that Blurb and Shutterfly offer. I’ve printed books from both places before and I’m happy with the quality. Depending on the number of pages and the size, they’re about $50-$150. If you want to get something that looks like the photographer’s albums, you’d be spending thousands of dollars.

Thanks so much ladies! On blurb or shutterfly, do they offer leather albums?

There are lots of great options for designing and printing your own album these days. We chose a package with few prints and now album because I want to design my own and it’s cheaper than having the photographer design the album.
