Since when are lies considered breaches of privacy? I can understand not wanting to discuss this because it is a hot button issue. But I know that for myself having read those threads and knowing that there was nothing personally revealing on them, I am having a hard time with this. It is certainly incriminating against her once the truth comes out, but then why not delete the TTC threads as well? It is just as inflamatory to many members.

I think many people are upset because it seems like her privacy is protected because she created a heinous crime and not because her real life information was revealed. As many bees have posted there have been instances where they were denied for more damning personal information and they were denied the same rights.

I’m going to post Penguin’s old post that she linked to, as I found the info to be a great explanation:

I’ll just use a real-life example here, since it involved me directly. I won’t talk about incidents with other members.

A while back, a negative review (not related to me) was posted to our boards, and the person who was being reviewed consistently and seriously threatened me via email and online in a manner that eventually escalated to the point where police were involved.  We removed several threads off of the boards as a result. We would do (and have done) the same for members of the site should things like this have happened to them. Obviously this is a very specific case involving myself, and there are a myriad of situations that have come to us in the past involving legal issues, polices/PPOs/and personally identifying information that puts members in harm’s way that have resulted in us deleting threads. but I hope this expands your imagination a bit to  to what I said earlier. Also I realize that this specific case was a police and not legal issue for me personally.

And to directly answer the question “you’re not going to answer any questions?” – if you have a specific question regarding a thread that involves you personally with that has been removed, I’m happy to discuss it via email at cathy (at) weddingbee (dot) com. I won’t discuss specific thread deletions here (or in email) especially if they involve significant breaches of privacy that don’t involve you personally. I think it’s only fair, and I think if you were going through something similar, you would expect the same.

@daybyday:  I think the best answer we’ll get is that the admin deleted those posts because at the time, that’s how she decided to handle the situation. Simple as that. I don’t see this as some sort of big mystery anymore. It was just a judgment call that some of us agree with and some of us disagree with.

Ok, I get there is some discretion involved… but the posts did NOT violate her privacy. For one, she posted it. Additionally, the posts were in no way truthful, and therefore couldn’t be linked to her, anyways. I understand there were plenty of e-mails and PMs and behind the scenes shenanigans, but these were decidedly not personally revealing, so I am having a hard time understanding the basis for the deletion.

Thanks for responding, either way, I’m sure this was an inconvenient weekend for the WB world to explode.

Basically, it is none of our business why a thread was deleted, unless there was something in it that directly affected us.

I can speculate 2 things off the top of my head why the threads were deleted that posters are talking about here.  It’s completely speculation though, and whatever the real reason is, is none of my business.

@AB Bride:  Ok. But it’s my business, because I care, and because I spend time on this site instead of the others… or at least would like to spend more time as my wedding planning ramps up.

@RnbwznPuppies:  Same here, since posts where she stated her last name are still up.

@RnbwznPuppies:  When you are a member, the site’s policies are your business.  Personal things going on with another member are not your business though.  If someone was being harassed by PMs/FB/emails etc, the community doesn’t need to be informed about it.  The same goes for other types of personal situations.

@AB Bride:  But she is the one that chose to talk about it, no one forced her, no one would have known anything if she didn’t state her name, post pictures, etc. etc. etc.

@yogaqueen:  If you search her name in WB, the posts still come up, at least.

@AB Bride:  Yup.  You guys have NO idea if she had been getting PMs threatening to hurt her or her family, blackmail her at her work or something, any number of things.  Not only is there no way for any of you to know that, you don’t have the right to know it either.

@mandypop:  What do PMs have to do with deletion of threads? That makes no sense.

@RnbwznPuppies:  Hmm when I search her name the only thread that pops up is the one about does the crime fit the punishment.

@AmeliaBedelia:  The information that connected the pieces was in those threads.  If people were using that info to send threatening PMs (like the one I got this morning),  its not at all surprising that some legal threats were made.
