My name is Allison and I’m thinking of starting my own business in wedding design, decor for rent and invitation services.
Like any other person just opening up a business I’m afraid of investing money and not having an clients. The only reason I fear this is because I feel like there are a great deal of DIY brides. Brides who would much rather do everything themselves.
Would you pay for someone to custom make your invitations? ($350 for 100 invitations/ envelopes) Would you hire someone to think of a great wedding design and pick the (linens, chairs, decor etc).
Please let me know why or why not you would hire an event designer/ planner or custom made invitations?
ANY INFORMATION and OPINION will be highly appreciated.

I think you need to do a lot of research. Of course there will always be people who are willing to pay for this stuff, but there are also a lot of businesses out there (some in your area I’m sure, others online) that will do this as well. I would check out Etsy – I know a lot of bees on here buy from them. Get an idea what they’re selling their goods/services for.
I think the issue is more about you creating a niche. What do you have to offer that’s a bit different? Do you have excellent marketing skills? Why will people choose your business over others?
I think that having an excellent website and a portfolio will help you a lot. I would start by doing some work for free (or a very reasonable price), maybe for friends or relatives to get the word out.
And don’t get discouraged. It’s definitely not easy starting a business. I think in the world of weddings you’ll always have a market.. you just need to find where you really fit in.
