Big D and I are BIG fans of Barenaked Ladies and want some of that spunky sound at our reception. The thing with BNL, though, is that even their peppiest stuff is laced with a bit of sad irony. Like, is it wrong to play “If I Had $1,000,000” when one of the lines is, “If I had $1,000,000, I’d buy your love”? Or “One Week”, which I think all my guests would recognize and dance to, when the entire song is about being too stubborn to reconcile after a fight?
This is on my mind a lot right now because last week I attended a wedding where the bride and groom danced to The Cure’s “Pictures of You”. That’s a really sad song and I could feel that I wasn’t the only guest who was picking up on it. It was kind of uncomfortable…
So, what do you guys think? BNL okay as long as it’s not a ‘featured’ song?
