I’m really sorry if this has been asked before, but there is just so MUCH stuff on here about Jasmine’s bridal shop and I’ve given up on reading it all.
I just recently got engaged, and we’re planning on getting married in ~12 months (so plenty of time). I want this dress:
I’ve requested a quote from JBS for how much it would cost to make this. My Fiance would like me to wear a white/ivory/light-coloured dress. As a pale freckly person who feels better in darker colours I just don’t know if I can. Even if I can find a colour which suits me I don’t know if I could evey feel like myself in a white/light dress.
So, my ideal colour of dress would be dark teal. The Fiance thinks that would be overwhelming over an entire dress. Thoughs?
Also, JBS doesn’t seem to offer teal as a colour: http://www.jasminesbridalshop.com/index.php?task=colorlist&page=1
So, I was wondering if you know if JBS have other colours which aren’t listed on their main colour chart (I know, grasping at straws)/
Failing that, will they allow you to send them the fabric to use? I’ve found the perfect colour at New York Fashion Centre Fabrics and since I have plenty of time I would be happy to purchase the fabric in my chosen colour (163 Antria) and have it sent to JBS to work with.
I know that these are all questions that JBS can answer, but since they have a bit of a backlog at the moment I wondered if anyone here knows this?
Any input from anyone would be so much appreciated!
Oh, I’m 5’2″, if that helps with deciding if the colour would be overwhelming on the dress

Hey! That’s the exact dress I have saved in my wedding folder! Weeeeird! I’m not sure how I feel about it in teal though… I mean, I’ve seen some brides pull off some pretty bold colour dresses, so I guess it’s not really a question I can answer for you. Are you the type of person who can pull that off? 🙂

Thanks for answering!
ETA: Do you think you’ll get this dress (or similar) in the end? I find its simplicity really arresting – I love it!
Hmm, I’m very shy, so I’m not really the sort of person who pulls off bold choices.. But I’m also not the sort of person who ever does things the standard way (it’s not deliberate, I’m just not wired that way.. I’m a bit of a square peg).
If it helps, this will be a very small, totally secular garden wedding. And by very small, I mean around 6-12 guests.
I thought, if I did get it in teal I could wear a cream headband and carry a small cream bouquet. Also possibly cream tights and shoes. That might tone things down?
I thought a headpiece like this – I also have a pixie cut.

That head band is awesome and it’ll look adorable with the dress and a pixie cut. I think the dress would look great in ivory, but maybe thats just me being overly conformist. I guess it just feels a bit more bridal to me. I’m also pale and a little bit freckly and ivory worked better than a stark white on me.
I don’t think the teal would be overpowering and would probably look lovely with your complexion. I would go with the cream headband and bouquet, but I think the cream tighst may be a bit of overkill.

I voted light colour….not necessarily white or ivory but a soft blue or something might be more bridal. I love the cream headband!

@Koogie75: im not sure yet what I want to go with. There’s a tea length David’s bridal dress I’ve been obsessed with hut it is more money than I want to spend. Since you are having such a small wedding, I think the teal is probably fine. The people who will be there will know you well and appreciate that this is more your style. Though for the record, I am also quite pale and I like how ivory looks with my skin tone. But whether you want teal or ivory/some other variation on white is totally up to you and your Fiance (and I do think his preference should have some weight here but that may just be me).
ETA: can you let me know what jasmines quotes you? I’m interested to know. 🙂

I really want to wear a dress that Fiance loves, in a colour he loves. I’m just very awkward and shy, and hate being the centre of attention. I know that I will feel more able to cope with the attention if I feel totally “me”. And teal is very much my colour.
Ah well. I’ll go and try some dresses in in the light colours – maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised. I’m sure I’m over thinking it. Cos that’s what I do!
I will absolutely let you know once I have a quote!

I think you should go with the color that suits you the best. If you won’t feel pretty in a white dress, then don’t do it to satisfy “tradition.”
And dark teal isn’t an overwhelming color….now, if you were asking about neon orange, that would be a different conversation…. 🙂

@Koogie75: I think going to a store and trying on dresses is a great idea. At least it will give you some idea how you really feel about the colours. If you still want to go with teal, I would go with it, if that’s what will make you the most comfortable and feel prettiest on your wedding day.

Thanks for the replies – I’ve decided to also get a quote for a custom made Candy Anthony replica dress. I think it’ll feel more me 🙂
@tallierand – will PM you with the response I got from JBS about this dress.
