My husband and I are wanting to do a vow renewal on our 5 year anniversary for several different reasons but I was just wanting to see how other couples have done their vow renewals recently. I searched for posts regarding this but only found posts 4+ years old.
What kind of dress did you wear?
Where did you have your vow renewal (venue)?
How many people did you invite?

There are so many different kinds of vow renewal options. My husband and I enjoy doing a simple vow renewal on our own every 5 years. We keep it low key. It’s usually just the two of us but a couple of times we invited our immediate family (we are both only children so immediate family to us is only 4 people).
Wherever we happen to be while on vacation is where we will look around for vow renewal packages online. Lots of resorts or cruise ships will have inexpensive options. Or just look online for local officiants, they can recommend good places to hold the renewal. If you’re in a touristy area there will be plenty of such officiants or photographers to choose from. Since we are already on vacation we aren’t going out of our way with a lot of planning, etc.
For our 5th, we were in Las Vegas so we booked a vow renewal at the Graceland Wedding Chapel and got the “old” Elvis to officiate. It was so much fun, I would recommend it for sure. You’d think it would be completely cheesy but he really had some touching things to say. We have done our other renewals on a beach in Mexico, in a log chapel on our old college campus, and in a castle garden in Prague.
For dresses I’ll wear a bridal informal, a lot of the designers have informal lines. I think the first one I got was at the David’s Bridal $99 sale, but the rest I got on Ebay from bridal shops. Ebay is great for this–a lot of bridal shops will sell their samples and accessories cheap. I don’t wear a veil, train or anything that screams bride-on-her-wedding-day.
Happy anniversary and many happy returns!

Just a heads up, some bees here might reply with “vows don’t expire”. But I really think you should do it. I plan to do one too in the future. I would wear a simpler dress, perhaps a bridesmaid like dress in ivory and perhaps have it at a resort with with a suite. If it’s 5 years, it will likely just be me, him and a private dinner. But for 10 years for example, perhaps family and some close friends with dinner, drinks, cake and dancing afterwards.

Thanks ladies. What we have in mind is a very private vow exchange (just him and I) in Yosemite National Park and hire a photographer for the exchange and couple photos. I do plan on wearing something somewhat bridal.

Your plan sounds perfect. Yosemite — how beautiful. I never thought of renewing vows at a national park, I love that idea! I hope you share some photos on this board afterward.
That’s a gorgeous dress. It has a kimono look to me.

I haven’t had my vow renewal yet. We will be renewing our vows for our 10th Anniversary in April. We are going on a cruise with some of our family and when we get back from the cruise we will renew our vows at a beach house we rented for the remainder of the weekend. We will be exchanging vows and new rings. I chose a lace ivory knee length dress that I can definitely wear again.

My older brother and his wife did a ten year anniversary party. They rented a fabulous suite at a NYC Hotel (Trump Sohi with river views and NYC skyline).
Apparel: Sleek beaded gown, black formal (no tux) suit
Bridal party: Bridesmaid or Best Man & Maid/Matron of Honor – two children (girl & boy) – both carried baskets of pink carnation bouts and handed to guests as they walked down aisle – was a real hit and everyone wore one throughout evening.
Guests: 50 with photographer & videographer, great DJ, lots of champagne and a sit down early dinner. Both ceremony and reception were in same room and everyone went to lobby to take photos while room as changed over.
It was fabulous.
