Hey, I am planning a wedding in NYC and I live far away. I am heading to the city next week and have set up a few appointments for looking at reception venues. I only have 1 chance at this so I need to know any must ask questions. It is only for about 30 people. Any help would be much appreciated!

What kind of place are you looking for? A restuarant? What kind? A pub? A hall?

If you google “questions to ask a wedding venue,” you’ll find several good checklists online. The obvious questions are availability and cost (food/drink plus detailed breakdowns of extra fees, like ceremony setup, dance floor setup, coat check, etc.). If you want to bring in your own items or services (alcohol, cake, DJ, decor), be sure to find out if that’s allowed or if they require you to use their approved vendors. I’d also suggest asking how early you can get in to set up (for example, will they book a luncheon on the same day as your evening wedding), and also ask how many staff will be there on site (how many table captains and waitstaff per table, will there be an event captain or event coordinator, etc.). Also ask about cancellation policy and when the deposit and final payment are due. Good luck!

thank you both for your feedback, we had 5 appointments set up but ended up canceling 2 as we found our ideal venue with the 2nd viewing. We love it and I think I have all questions answered! Thanks again!
