It depends. From what I have read (and talk to my day of planner about) if the people you hire have thier own business ex. Sue’s Photographer and Sue is your photographer- then you dont have to tip them. If it is someone working for a company then you should. But most places include tip in their cost for the service so make sure you check that. Then just tip the people who went above and beyond on the day. Make sure to bring cash and enevelopes with you and set someone up as the person who hands them out!!

Below is what I tipped everyone – The florist was her own company.


Brian $            130

Tony $            130

Assistant(Jamie) $             75

Videographer (Ed) $            100

DJ   #1 $      500

Florist: Pamela $             50

The W Jennifer  $            125

Banquet Manager $             75

Kool Events Coordinator $             50


Mia $            120

Funny you post this – FH and I were just talking about this last night. As we are getting closer to the day some of our final payments are sneaking up on us. There is this thread and one of the posters makes a great suggestion – – send the tip when you send the thank you card?  I like that idea…

We are tipping these people as they are independents and we were not charged tax and/or gratuity.

We are sending the tip when we send the thank you card, because ALL of our vendors own their own businesses. If someone owns there own business, you do not have to tip. We plan on tipping if the service is good/exception.
