@kakers:  I would say go talk to your boss with your written resignation and let him/her know that you appreciated the opportunity very much but that for personal reasons you are going to be leaving.  You don’t have to tell them about your new job although they may call for references. It is tough but they should understand.  How long have you been at your current job?

I am today as well. The job has been very good to me but I’m moving to be with my OH in a different city. Hope yours goes well… πŸ™‚

@kakers:  I Think you should tell him what you told us, you appreciate the experience you’ve gained and the wonderful work environment but that you’re going to have to take another job to further your career. Mention that you’d love to keep in contact and help out in the office when you can. I bet he’ll be understanding, this kinda stuff happens all the time πŸ™‚

Uh! I am so with you. Same position, they took a risk hriring me fresh out of school, I’m leaving after 3 years and I feel like I’m totally abandoning them but I know it’s the right thing to do.  Just be honest and grateful and try not to lose too much sleep over it.

Seriously, who needs this kinda stress right now?!?

You can do it!

@kakers:  How did it go? My boss was lovely – obviously a bit surprised but very nice about it. I hope yours went just as well.

Telling colleagues is proving harder – only told the couple that I’m really close to but they were both pretty upset πŸ™ Happy for me, but not pleased!

@kakers:  Glad it wasn’t too painful. It’s a shame your office manager felt the need to put it all on you, but at least it’s done now!

Due to the nature of my job (teacher), my notice period is really long (I don’t finish until July), so no new job lined up yet. Am starting to look as some jobs for September are already coming up… Wish me luck!

@kakers:  Congratulations!! I love hearing when things like this happen to others. πŸ™‚

Remember that in the “work world” it’s literally just business. No matter how much you love people or they love you. Enjoy that you made great connections and now have references. And then tell your boss the same exact thing you told us…you have a start date that came faster than inteded and this job offer was a surprise. Of course they will be surprised but they will get over in about 10 minutes and start making plans to get the next person.

Enjoy your new job!
