No, it does not sound like you are putting yourself down. It’s from a classic piece of literature and I cannot imagine anyone not getting the reference – well, except for some of my ILs, who don’t understand why some people would want to read things they don’t have to. *eye roll*

Use it! It’s not rude, just tell her it’s important to you as it was your mother’s favorite book, and you’ve decided to keep it. Better yet, have your Fiance tell her, that way if she has a snarky comment you don’t have to be the one who hears it.

@busybride215:  Putting yourself down? HUH? I love that quote and I have very seriously considered getting a TATTOO of it, so yeah, I think putting it on your wedding invitations is fine!! Keep it!

@busybride215:  Just message her back and tell her that you’re sorry she doesn’t like the quote and you know that you asked for her opinion, but after thinking it over have decided to keep the quote, as it’s from your mother’s favorite book and you and your Fiance are very happy with it.

It sounds like it might me adjustment disorder over the fact that her son is getting married. I’d brush that comment off.

@busybride215:  I have no idea what she is talking about, that is a beautiful quote!  And extra special because it was your mom’s favorite book.  Absolutely use it, don’t worry about your Future Mother-In-Law.  Just say, “I appreciate your feedback but I’m really set on this one.  Thanks!”

Stay with your quote. It’s your wedding, not hers, so the choice is yours. (I’m using “your” as a plural, i.e. you and FI).

Also, I think it is far better if your Fiance handles her, since she’s his mother. Let him do the explaining.

Keep it and drop it.  You don’t need to explain yourself.

@busybride215:  yeah best to just say nothing an use it.  Last time I checked you weren’t soliciting opinions by showing her lol. She sounds like my mom.
