I came across this quote today and was inspired to write it out and stick it to my office wall:
“For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong” – H.L. Mencken
As an engineer and problem-solver I love that!
What quotes do you surround yourself with at work, home, etc?

I have a few…
”I know enough to know that I dont know everything” Cindy Crawford
”Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out” John Wooden
And finally, this longer one from a movie I love
”As you know, l’m quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology… The mythology is not only great, it’s unique.
Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there’s the superhero and there’s the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he’s Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red “S”, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears – the glasses, the business suit – that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He’s weak… he’s unsure of himself… he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race.” Bill

This one always makes me laugh:
“Sometimes you meet a guy and think he’s a total pig, but later on you realize he actually has a really good body.”

If you give a man fire, he’ll be warm for a day. If you set a man on fire, he’ll be warm the rest of his life.
“If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”
Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

Three be the things I’d been better without:
Love, curiosity, freckles, and doubt
Three be the things I shall have till I die:
Laughter and hope and a sock in the eye.
Dorothy Parker. It’s the second half of a poem.

One of my favorites:
“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.” Bertrand Russell
He has so many great quotes though!

My favorites, I plan to get a couple of these tattooed on me soon:
“Very few things indeed were really impossible” – From Alices Adventures in Wonderland (the book).
“Be humble, for you are made of earth. Be noble, for you are made of stars” I have no idea where this comes from but I love it.
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.” “But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born out of fatigue and loneliness” “You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and stars. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.” – These are all pieces from Desiderata.

@Little_Nut88: Cute thread! I just saw this one this morning, and wrote it down on a post-it for my desk at work:
“If there is no solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it.”

“When the last living thing Has died on account of us, How poetical it would be If Earth could say, In a voice floating up Perhaps From the floor Of the Grand Canyon, “It is done.” People did not like it here.”
The sad and poetic Kurt Vonnegut
