I am having a difficult time getting a good pic of the cut of my ring to show you How it is cut. The sparkle is affecting the focus on my camera phone so I cant take a head on picture. A jeweler told my my cut is a hybrid cut and there is no standard for radiant cut diamonds because it is a fancy shape. He described is as a scissor step modified brillian cut. The GIA report says modified brillant. The first pic shows the scissoring shaped facets most easily seen with a loop. All of the lines converge towards the center. But from the top it looks more like a bucket of gold nuggets. The sides are cut similar to an emerald, thus the step (i think).
on one hand I agree about not liking the splintery crushed ice look. I like how the chunky facets are very distinctive and modern looking. I know it sounds crazy but honestly this cut was far from what I “knew” I wanted. It’s a tough choice. It took a leap of faith but I’m glad I did. The reason it sparkles the way it does is because of the facets. My Fiance has already talked up grades (partly because he likes two wedding bands and it’s only fair that I get another ring too, right?) and that one will be an Ascher or Cushion with large distinctive facets maybe even old mine cut. So if I can be patient I will eventually have the best of both worlds. But I dont even want an upgrade. I love my ring.
When I gaze at my ring I’m enjoying the rainbow of colors its throwing and how the sparkle dances across the top. I enjoy the colors flashing from the side facets and deep within that seem to catch the light even in a dim room. my heart just melts when we are in a restaurant that is dark with those bright LED lights! My ring goes dark, almost a charcoal color & still transparent, but has amazing sparkle that can be seen from across the restaurant. Seriously my friend cam back from the bathroom told me to take it off because I had to see it for my self! SUre enough it caught my eye from the other side of the room. Above all I wanted sparkle and fire! This cut was the most sparkly among diamonds presented. My ring is small and understated (for my area)but it has caught the eye of women (and men) that have much larger diamonds but have never seen a radiant cut diamond or a diamond other than round that sparkles so much.
when you decide, know what is most important to you and go for the diamond that has the most of what you want. Since all radiants are different there is wiggle room as to how much faceting your particullar diamond will have. No matter what you choose, I am sure you will be happy. You have narrowed the choice down to two of the most beautiful cuts.
