I’m stuck in the middle of a decision! I know I want a colorful petticoat under my wedding dress. It’s a surprise for everyone, only my mom and I know about it! But I can’t decide between having a rainbow petticoat (see photo example) or a purple petticoat (see photo example).
Some things to consider:
-My favorite color is purple
-Our wedding accent color is purple, thus my bouquet and my bridesmaids will be in purple
-I will be walking in to ‘somewhere over the rainbow’
-Part of our wedding is Disney’s “Up” themed so we have a lot of little rainbow balloon elements in the table numbers.
-I will be wearing gold colored flats (I recently severely hurt my back and I am medically discouraged from wearing heels)
-I want my wedding to have a fun, youthful and cheerful vibe to it
-We are secretly taking dance lessons so I want something that will stun people when I am twirled by my fiance (since before that the length of my dress will cover the colored portion.
What are your thoughts ladies???

Is your dress tea or floor length?
I have a tea length dress and I really wanted to have a yellow petticoat under it but it was SO HARD to find the right yellow. Then I thought about blue, but it just didn’t work with my dress. I opted for a nice ivory malco modes chiffon petticoat. Really soft, swishy, not too much fluff.
I like the purple, honestly. Unless you’re using rainbow colors anywere else, I’d stick with your accent.
What ever you do though don’t get one of those scratchy crinolines. Get chiffon or some kind of soft fabric. It looks less costumey.

Where did you end up buying your petticoat from?

I love both choices, but I totally vote RAINBOW(!!) as my favorite. I love how it gives a clever little nod to your entrance song, as well as tying in with your “Up” (love that movie!) theme for your wedding. Also, I think the rainbow petticoat with the gold flats will be so pretty. When I think about a purple petticoat with gold flats, my mind instantly goes to “Mardi Gras” — no matter how pretty or elegant the petticoat and flats are. My mind is a bit weird, though … ha, ha.
No matter what you choose, it will be beautiful! Which one do you picture yourself wearing as you walk down the aisle? Which one does your mom prefer? (You mentioned that only you two know about the extra pop of color, which I think is so fun that you guys are sharing that with each other.)
EDIT TO ADD: I was just thinking that, if you did rainbow, you might be better off going with a muted or pastel sort of version of the colors. (If you like the more muted/pastel versions at all.) That way, it might look less “carnival” while still being a super fun pop of color.

I think the rainbow will look amazing next to your white dress and purple bouquet.

My mom actually wants me to get a hot pink one haha, it’s not really my style! But that’s a good idea about the muted pastel tones!

Wow, that rainbow petticoat is amazing, I had no idea such a thing even existed!
I think you can’t go wrong either way, really. You love purple and your main wedding color is purple, so purple might be the safer choice. But the “Up” themed rainbow balloon elements and walking to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” make me think that the rainbow would be wonderful too.
I’d pick whichever one you prefer most! I would factor in what you’d prefer in wedding pictures, since you’ll be looking at those for years to come. If you’re really stuck between the two, sometimes it helps to pick one in your mind and see how disappointed you are that you aren’t getting the other. Sometimes I find that I would be much more disappointed to give up one of my options, and then it’s easier to decide. But like I said, I really think either would work well.

I’d vote for rainbow, as it seems like there’s already going to be a lot of purple. It would be fun to change it up!

Something else I neglected to mention is that I’m having a unique wedding ring made. My fiance is getting my this rose ring but he is putting a purple amethyst stone in the center. Here is a photo of the ring with its standard setting. I’m wearing it on my right hand since my engagement ring will remain on my left hand (my fingers are different sizes so I couldn’t change them if I wanted to haha).

Thats super helpful. I think I am leaning more towards purple over all. i love the fun rainbow color, but it’s doesn’t feel as much like as a purple does. Maybe I can do a couple shades of purple to still have that multi-tone affect but keep it in my color range.
Your advice of imaging which makes you sad not to have is incredibly helpful!

with everything already being purple i vote for rainbow. Plus it will really stand out with all the colors. Also purple and rainbows match so why not. If you can’t pick one color pick them all.
