Best person to ask is alterations. You may not like the new lines it makes when you move up the skirt. See if they can help you visualize it by pinning it.

Also – adding poof will take away some inches in length. Try it with another layer of crinoline and see if you like the look.

As a seamstress, I can tell you it’ll be loads easier to just hem it from the bottom.  Not because of the jeweled piece, that can easily be taken off and replaced, but because the seam just under your hips is asymmetrical.  Also, that seam looks like it’s hitting you in the right spot right now so I wouldn’t recommend raising it.  Was there a reason you wanted to do it that way?

I am a seamstress as well and its definitely doable. Like pp said, the jeweled peice is probably one peice applique that can be taken off and put back on. The front might be trickier than the back in my opinion. Talk to your seamstress about your idea and what you are wanting in the final product. It can be accomplished either way. Your seamstress can actually see how the dress is made to know how best to accomplish the hemming. Good luck and gorgeous dress!!!

samantha.miland:  My daughter had hers done like you want.  The bodice was long on her and the skirt had a horsehair edge.  They removed the skirt and raised it up about 2 inches. It was a little simpler that yours because it was tulle but it had about 8 layers of fabric.  It was fairly expensive to do but she was much happier with it.  Make sure to use a reliable seamstress.  Don’t skimp when it matters.  Good luck!
