Does anyone know of any reception venues that will let you bring in your own food? My Fiance and I are looking for a site in the Raleigh area since that’s where we met and went to high school (Broughton, Class of 2004!). We wouldn’t mind Cary or Wake Forest either, even near the airport since we’ll have a lot of out of town guests. We are having about 80-85 people and want a lounge atmosphere or at least a place big enough where we can DIY the same look. We’re on a tight budget since we’re paying for everything ourselves and my mom was going to pay for/cater our food as a wedding gift to us. But it seems like a lot of the places I’ve seen so far, you have to use their preferred caterers. Any suggestions ladies?

I’m not sure about places in Raleigh, but I know that near Chapel Hill there are several:
Barn at Valhalla
Horace Williams House
I think you might run into trouble with the “lounge atmosphere” requirement…when I was looking, it seemed like the places that let you bring your own caterer or food or alcohol were more rustic. But it might be really cool to take a rustic place and redo it into a lounge!

We are in the same boat. Many of the places with preferred or in house catering are just out of our budget.
Many of the parks/community centers and historic homes look promising. Although most of the historic homes would require a tent reception (don’t know if you have room for a tent in your budget).
City of Raleigh community center list:

I have also found:
Burning Coal Theater, Raleigh
Museum of Natural Science, Downtown Raleigh
Bass Lake, Holy Springs
I would also love to know if anyone else has suggestions!

Thanks so much for the different sites. I checked out Pullen Park because I’ve had a family reunion there and loved the atmosphere there but I found out that they are under going renovations and won’t be able to reserve a date until June 2011! That’s cutting it waaayy too close for my tastes. Bass Lake, which I love (my fiancee took his kids there before his latest deployment), was definitely out of our budget. So I’m going to keep searching the parks and check out some of the other places you ladies suggested. I’m kind of losing hope in finding the lounge atmosphere. I’m thinking of just doing something lounge-like for our after party..I’ll keep you ladies posted on what else I find out from the venues you gave me.

Look into Hudson Manor in Louisburg. I know its a drive but its all inclusive. All you have to worry about is the photographer and attire.

Check out the Rand-Bryan house. It’s technically in Garner, but just minutes off of I-40. My fiance and I live in Cary, and wanted to DIY lots of things for our wedding…and choose which vendors we wanted to work with. The Rand-Bryan house is BEAUTIFUL – beautiful gardens and landscaping…very friendly owners. They are very flexible and allow for you to choose all of your vendors. We’re getting married there on June 4, 2011 🙂 🙂 Good luck!

I just went to a Bridal show at the Sutherland.
It’s technically in Wake Forest.
It’s a beautiful place and they do have in house catering but they do allow outside catering. I have the information if you are interested.

Campbell Lodge at Durant Nature Park allows you to bring in your own food. They also have a kitchen which helps the caterers out quite a bit so you’re not stuck with cold food. 🙂
