Aw, how sweet of him!

When I was sixteen, half a dozen lymph nodes on my neck just suddenly got huge. My doctor sent me to a specialist who did a needle biopsy and told me he suspected I had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. We had to wait three days for the results.

My parents were beside themselves. My mom flipped out and started reading all these horror stories on the internet about Hodgkin’s, my dad looked scared for the first time I could remember, they couldn’t sleep. The third day, I just couldn’t be in the house with them anymore, they were so doom and gloom.

So I went out shopping downtown to take my mind off things. As I was just about to go into a store, a man who was selling flowers on the street came over to me with an orchid blossom and said, “This is for you. I saw you walking there, and I thought, she needs a flower to brighten her day.” And he smiled and walked away. Five minutes later my parents called to tell me the biopsy results were negative.
