I would send her a thank you card – don’t mention anything about a surprise, just thank her warmly and let that be that 🙂

@maggierose:  I would just send a thank you note as if it is just a wedding gift, I wouldn’t make any mention of it being a mistake. Maybe she isn’t planning to go to the shower, but wanted an opportunity to give you a gift, anyway.

Just send her a card thanking her for the generousity. It’s really not any more complicated than that 🙂

EDIT – send her a card now, waiting until May is a long time.

It’s real fun when you find out there is a surprise shower coming!

I would definately send her a thank you now, and not mention the shower or thinking it was a mistake.
