this is super embarrassing but I figured asking experiences of other women may put my concerns to bed.
im 25 years old, and as of last year I started having dark hair growth my body. Not thick, it’s quite sparse, but I’ve never had this issue.
i have light skin, light eyes and medium colored hair.
it first began with random black hairs on my face, maybe 1 or 2 on each cheek. But now I get probably 5-10 on each side, and quite a few on my chin. Other people don’t notice, but I do and I find in really bright lighting my chin looks slightly darker because of it. I should mention this happened after I got the Jaydess (skyla) IUD. Prior to that I was 8 years on marveling birth control. But as correlation doesn’t equal causation, it could just be coincidental timing.
I’ve also gotten them on the bottom of my belly button, between my breasts, and around my nipple.
again, not thick, but present.
im a bit concerned that I might have pOly cystic ovary syndrome (both my half sisters have it).
do other women experience this??
i don’t know whether this is just a part of getting older or if it is cause for concern.
any help would be appreciated <3

Do you know if your mom has this as well? I have the same thing, but my mom has it worse. The first time I went to the lady who waxes me, she could guess my heritage just based on my light coloring (red hair green eyes) and these dark little hairs in less-than-ideal places, making me think it’s kind of normal among particular groups. Full disclosure though, I also have high androgen (one of the indicators of PCOS). It’s not a bad idea to bring it up with your doctor but unless you experience other symptoms, s/he might not pursue testing.

Ha I ran to my doctor with the same concern. As soon as I hit 30 it was like I was sprouting hair from random AF places. I was told it comes with age, but def go see your doctor if you’re concerned about yours. The crazy part is the hair on my head isn’t getting much longer (I’ve been trying to grow it out for the wedding) but I know I pluck long hairs all over my body like every few days—it grows that fast. One of my close friends started getting laser treatment in areas cause she was tired of all the plucking. I’m not there yet.

I actually think this is really normal, the reality is women don’t tend to talk about it. I experienced the same hair growth as you in my mid-twenties and I hated it. I’ve had Laser Hair Removal but it has only been somewhat successful. Mostly I’ve just learnt to live with it and manage it day-to-day. I have a few friends with the same issue and none of us have PCOS.

Your hormones are out of whack, get to your doctor asap. You may beed a differend birth control method.

I agree with above poster. It sounds like hormones. Hormonal contraceptive can raise your testosterone levels which can increase hair growth. I’ve just had the paraguard IUD inserted because I was fed up with the effects of synthetic hormones. I think you should go to your ob/gyn and discuss your contraceptive with them. Hairs are part of growing older but you are only 25 years old and black hairs coming out of your cheek does not sound normal imo.

It is something you should see your doctor about, but contrary to the advice of a pp, it is not an “asap” matter. Make an appointment.

This doesn’t strike me as odd at all. Tweezers are a girl’s best friend!
