    I would choose a diamond.

To me, nothing sparkles like a diamond and nothing is as white or as durable.

I love the thought of thousands of years of pressure creating something so vibrant and beautiful.

I love the glass/ice like appearance and I love how it unexpectedly catches the light.

Diamonds are also my birthstone and I have always loved diamonds over other gems.

I would choose a diamond because I’m traditional and I do love mine.

There is just something about a natural stone to me; be it a diamond, sapphire, ruby, quartz, anything. I know they can lab created these to the exact same chemical composition, there fore making it the SAME and REAL.  But it’s just not what I prefer.  Really no other rhyme or reason for it.  Even with it costing over 5x as much… I choose the diamond.

I think diamonds are illogical. Even though I have one on my finger, lol. I still wouldn’t choose a diamond over almost any other option for jewelry.

Well, I think the one flaw is that…the Moissy will not cost the same as a diamond if they are the exact same style and size.

But, honestly I’m not sure. It really just depends on how it physically looks side by side. I think Moissanite has awesome qualities and I think diamonds have awesome qualities. My e-ring is diamond and Asha, lol. So obviously I don’t have a problem with combining the two.

I wouldn’t choose. I love my diamond because of the history behind it and because the love of my life gave it to me to show his love. I would love it just as much if it were a moissonite, ruby, emerald, or lump of coal attached to some wire made to look like a ring. Honestly, he saw this and it made him think of me and his love for me. It didn’t matter what it’s chemical composition is and I don’t understand why people DO care. They are both very pretty. They both have their ups and downs. But neither is better than the other. Same does for colored stones versus non colored stones or even stoneless e-ring!

I’d absolutely consider moissanite for budgetary concerns but all things equal would go for a diamond.

I would choose massonite for political reasons.

I’m another April bday 🙂  and I would pick a diamond or gemstone.  I do own moissanite from moissaniteco…2 rings, to be exact, and another moissanite ring from somewhere else.   I’m really disappointed in the yellowness they show, but I think they are beautiful.   They just aren’t for me.   Right now I’m really into deep purple amethysts!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Yes, I agree for an e-ring, it doesn’t matter.

I was speaking more from all types of jewelry. Everything else being equal, I’d choose a diamond right hand ring over mossy, diamond earrings over mossy, etc.

But this is a completely unrealistic scenario since you will never find “identical” mossy & diamond stones for the same price. Unless DeBeer’s opens their vaults and floods the diamond markets.

April birthdays are pretty cool, you an Aries? Or a Taurus?

that’s a hard question because cost is a huge factor with moissanite for me!

however, cost aside, I still voted moissanite. you can’t be 100% sure that a diamond was ethichally sourced.  the process is so convoluted, and there might be scammers along the way. unless I mined it with my own two hands, I really can’t be sure. buying a vintage diamond is a very good alternative, but it still supports the diamond industry in general.

I cast tradition aside! besides, diamonds as a traditional engagement ring stone is a fairly recent concept.

my e-ring and my first wedding band have diamonds because I had not heard of moissanite or white sapphires before we bougtht them (I honestly thought all sapphires were blue, and I thought the only alternative to a diamond was a CZ). if I could travel back in time, I would not have any diamonds at all. also, at the time we bought them, I trused that they were  ethically sourced. now I can’t be sure.

There’s no way a diamond and a moissanite can cost the same and be identical in every way… Kind of like “If a Camry and a Rolls Royce cost the same which would you choose?” Well yeah, probably the nicer more expensive one, but you’re not factoring in the concept that not everyone can make that choice, and so the question is pretty moot.  I think you want to see if even if they “cost the same” people would still choose a moissanite.  Heck, if those were my choices, I’d choose both and run away before anyone else says otherwise 🙂

I would choose diamond. I don’t like the double refraction properties of a moissanite.
