morganc8:  Yes. I have really long red hair that goes down to my butt. People make comments or ask about it all the time. The most common questions are people asking if that’s my natural color (it is) and how long did it take to grow my hair that long. I hate the second question because it’s so awkward to answer, like I’ve had it long for a long time, but I trim it sometimes so I don’t really know, I usually just say many years haha.

ETA: It doesn’t bother me, especially since most people are complimenting my hair, so I’m polite about answering them. I can see how it might be annoying to be asked about your height or something else though, where it isn’t really a compliment.

It’s normal. People make stupid comments and are probably just trying to strike up a friendly conversation. Is it annoying? Yeah, sometimes. But nothing to get upset over. I’ve been really thin my entire life. Long blood line of thin women in my family and constantly got the “you’re so skinny!” growing up and the occassionaly snarky comment about anorexia (which I was the furthest from… just a really fast metabolism). I think it bothers some people because a lot of these ‘let me point out the obvious’ comments are about an insecurity of someone (what if your friend was realllly self conscious about her freckles?). Which is why no one should make these comments, but they do. Just smile and nod and change the subject.

People have asked me “why are you so white?” I usually just say “uh I dunno…I guess I don’t tan?” and asked if my hair was real, which I’m going to just pretend was a compliment.
People are awkward and I think they just say things without thinking about it.

I pretty much get comments on my appearance several times a week.  I just turned 24, but I look about 15, sometimes younger with no make-up.  I am average-ish height (5’4), but very petite with small features.  I have a round baby face with apple cheeks, a very pouty bottom lip (looks like I’m pouting when I’m not) and a very small button nose.  To top it off, I have a splattering of freckles across my cheeks and nose.  I get asked “How old are you sweetie?” when I go to Sam’s Club and reach for a free sample.  I guess they think that I look so young that I may not know what my food allergies are.  This has happened several times, with the most recent time being about 2 months ago.

Immediately following the “You look so young” comment, I ALWAYS get “You will appreciate it when you’re older!”.  Ughh…

Same as pp i’m a ginger and get questions/ comments all the time. consistantly the people who ask are divided into 2 groups, older ladies and creepy men. I don’t mind when the older ladies ask. The other one less so….

Before my post wedding hair chop, I had really long hair.  Whenever I left it down, I always had women ask me if it was all my real hair or where I got my extensions because it looked so real.  Hahaha no extensions, it’s 100% mine!  I actually had a nurse reach out and touch my hair on my way to the exam room.  When I turned around in surprise, she turned red and said “Sorry!  I just couldn’t help myself.  I just wanted to see what it felt like…” and tried to touch it again.

morganc8:  Hahaha  I know!  But I felt a little strange when she reached out and touched it a 2nd time even before I had a chance to respond.  I don’t think she meant any harm, but people can be really weird!

I think people tend to find a physical feature to discuss when making small talk.

For me it’s usually my eyelashes if I’m speaking to another female, asking if they’re real, what mascara I use, when I say they’re extensions I get a whole host of questions on that.

I personally don’t mind. I’m surprised I don’t get comments on my freckles actually, I have the freckliest arms I have ever seen!!
